There are certainly valid reasons to fear them. I had a friend who was bitten on the arm by a brown recluse when she put a jacket on on a cool summer night. She was in the hospital 8 days and sustained huge scars on her arm.

She was bitten on the left foot, during the Atlanta Gift Market, and by the time we got home- a six hour drive- well, as I mentioned, the only sicker people I've seen ended up dying.
