For this tax increase to pass, it had to have 2/3 majorities. That means some traitorous dog Republicans had to cross over.

There's no withholding on real property sales, no income tax here in Texas!
We'll take Kalifornia's
productive citizens!
Even trade you several thousand illegal immigrants, since you seem to like them so much.
Hehehehehe!

I took my family and property out of CA in December 2000. Watching the socialist horror show from the comfort of my new home in Idaho is a daily affirmation of the wisdom of the move.

Ever heard a Democrat discuss where the money for all of their "progressive" programs comes from? How about companies losing jobs and moving overseas? Tax incentives to retain businesses intent on moving to more attractive environments in Nevada or Arizona?
[ They chide companies for going overseas, but they tax them into doing this! They don't approve of the profit motive! But they sure want "theirs" when it comes to the good things in life! their Hollywood counterparts ride around in huge stretch limos made out of SUVs, then tell us not to drive SUVs. They are such hypocrites. ]
Its not in their vocabulary. Theyre extremely skillful at hiding behind the mantra, and nobody makes them responsible for the economic consequences.
[[ We need to call them on this. I fear that the democratic party is growing in many areas, that used to be Republican or toss up states. ]
In fact, capitalism, the profit motive, markets, the exchange of goods and services, limits on state control and oppressive taxation are anathema to these leeches.
How is it humanly possible for anyone to vote Democrat? Its suicide! But then Jim Jones made tasty Kool-Aid.
[ Tommy Daschle sure has a lot of kool aid to pass out. ]

"Requires income tax withholding at a rate of 3 1/3 percent from the proceeds of the sale of real property purchased from individuals who are California residents, effective starting January 1, 2003"It is unbelievable that he can get away with this. Has Bill Simons handlers even pondered making a commercial about this? Sickening believable is the media themselves, not bringing this fact into the public eye due to 'RED' Davis "Consistent Malfeasance"!

All these California problems have me chuckling. Until I think that the state holds over 15% of the population of the country, and if this 15% can't excel economically, our country won't be able to either. And with the state going further and further into debt, is a federal bailout not far behind, thus punishing everyone in the country for this state's total inept handling of its affairs?

As I read this bill, it is not a sales tax on the real estate transactions, but rather a withholding of possible capital gains tax on that transaction. Technically, it is not a tax increase. However, the state gets to keep your money for up to 12 months. In many cases, there will be no state capital gains liability, so the state gets an interest free loan of money that the homeowner may have needed for his next transaction. While the state may get interest-free money, the homeowner may have to increase the size of his next mortgage to cover that cash shortfall. Like everything that eminates from Davis, this sucks, big time.
Maybe what we vacation homeowners need to do is to make our vacation homes our mailing address for all sale related documents just before we put the house on the market. Complete all the escrow documents using that address. Let all the escrow documents be delivered to that address, including all closing documents and the final check. Now what could the escrow company do? I suppose they will ask to see your driver's license. Then you say you just moved there. You can change your utility bills to have them mailed to that address, and you show them your gas, electric and phone bill. Better yet, go to the DMV and report a license change. Afterwards, you can always change it back. I see this as a big mess. Lots of cash at stake, and people will become inventive. Just wait, it will hit the fan just as soon as sale transactions take place in January.
Next, the state will withhold funds on the sale of stock. What do they care if you had a capital loss? It's just an interest free loan to them.
