IMPORTANT BULLETIN FROM RONDOG AT THE SCENE!

The Hotel Director Of Security is giving him some trouble. His cellphone is dead - can't get messages or call out.

He checked earlier with the police, and they said no problem with the protest's location. He did so again this morning, and they said no problem. But now the hotel's director of security is not so sure.

Three possible locations:

• Sidewalk, edge looking down. might not let us on the edge for security reasons.
• Backup position - right in front of fountain in middle of street. "That'll work; they can't see us from downstairs, but still good.
• Third choice down the street, around the corner- Ron says no way.

Decision will be at 3:00pm. "We want to exercise our first amendment rights on public property."

The guy's name is Scott Dypwick. We can professionally and politeily explain this protest. If he wants the focus of the protest to be the hotel and its security, that's fine. But we would rather have an acceptable area. Phone is (310) 551-3328. Be diplomatic but firm. Don't piss them off; politely and firmly say that there are a lot of people watching what you do. We appreciate the security concern, but it needs to be balanced with our freedom of speech rights, which allow us to peacefully protest on public property.

When President Bush appeared at Century Plaza Hotel just a few months ago, the socialists were protesting across the street. There were no demonstrations on the hotel side. If they let you demonstrate on the sidewalk across the street that would be consistent with prior M.O. If they let you protest actually on the sidewalk in front of the hotel (on the driveway) that would be surprising because the sidewalk on Ave. of the Stars is public...the property line starts at the sidewalk, not up on the driveway in front.... if they let you stay on the sidewalk of Ave of the Stars then you're ok! Stay in touch!

The guy at Century Plaza Hotel says that he does not know where the official zone is located. You guys need to get LAPD to commit in writing to the zone. If you have a commitment in writing you can make sure that they follow their own rules (and don't discriminate on the basis of some wierd political thing).

Stay sharp guys. Low level security guys do not set policy for the sidewalks of LA. LAPD has juridiction there. The sidewalks on Century Plaza Hotel property are a different matter. If you guys want to use their bathroom and they attempt to preclude it, you can question why.
