Smoothed edges for pocket or purse.... and smooth shooting....Right out of the box

amen - most others expect ya to pay for the pistol, and then pay to upgrade it. with Kimber, it's true from the box!

My last two bits and then to the rack...work manana at 9.

For your night stand gun while sleeping: your wheelgun hands down and .357 is an excellent choice....in my view the best all around revolver caliber period. Awakened from sleep and fumbling around....the foolproof wheelgun is my choice....no question. If you have uninitiated children around then by all means get a quick latch keypad box safe.

This is just my own, personal correct opinion, but I would stick with your first choice. I carry the HK .45 Compact on a daily basis in a BladeTech paddle holster. I can't tell it is there, and I do not think the "kick" is bad at all.

No kiddies, just cats, dogs and hubby. He likes his Ruger 9mm, he is not as interested in firearms as I. How did you know where my little revolver was...Goodnight and thanks.

You don't say what your primary use will be, for this gun. These are not good choices, for a carry gun. They are both on the large side, which may also make them bad choices. [not bad guns, they are two of the best] As a dealer, I would suggest that you go to a local dealer and try the fit, of the different guns, in your hand. [if the dealer is not willing to help you find a gun that fits you, or wants to TELL you what you should buy, find another dealer] If you know someone that owns guns, ask if you can try different calibers and types. [good idea to offer to supply the ammo] Most any good quality gun would last lifetime. [tests have shown that most auto-loaders don't reach maximum accuracy potential till they have about 4000 rounds fired] You need to make up your mind on the features you want. Like single or double action, if it has a positive safety, and all metal or polymer frame. [weight is a major concern for a carry gun] With modern bullets, most any caliber can do a reasonable job for self defense. Larger calibers do come with more recoil, but anyone can learn to shoot any caliber, with practice. The main thing is to get what fits your needs and fits your hand. When you determine what YOU want, don't let anyone change your mind!! To be effective for self defense, you have to be ready and able to use your firearm without thinking about it. If the gun is too big or you are uncomfortable about using it, it's not the correct one for you. Good Luck with your quest for a new gun.

Well, I'm just going to have to try them all.hehehe

I still like the 45's, but it's based on things I've been reading and specs. It's hard to tell from pictures the real size of a firearm and I must admit some of them just look good to me.

Your female intuition may be telling you something. Ugly sometimes means things. Lots of folks, professionals too, like them...but I just don't.

The comment about shooting a lot of .45s is sound too...but the heftier launcher helps with that too. Competitive target shooting is mostly done with light-loaded .45s, lead, actually. If you practice with light target loads, stepping up to military Ball or +P higher velocity should be easy, and fun.

However...to use all the time...perhaps a .40....nah.

Really, the absolute winner, the finest and most reliable action...addictive...gets in your soul somehow...is the original package, the M1911 in .45ACP. Fewer parts, bigger parts, only ONE way to shoot it, and battle proven in the most horrendous circumstances on Earth. You fall in love with them...if you like them at all. Some don't. It IS the hands down Target winner, lots of aftermarket parts, few question it in battle and other social work...and should satisfy any trading-up to the big stuff desires. Perhaps cheaper, too. Were I to run out of the house with only one auto....If you're getting into pistols...this is the Queen, from which ALL others are judged. You can ALWAYS find a grateful buyer later, if need be, too.

Some people don't like to carry them in the intended Condition One...cocked. Later models have internal safeties too, for what it's worth. Once you realize how it works, and what it can and cannot do...as I said...it's addictive. You KNOW it is ready, and what it will do, and keep on doing as long as you tell it to. Worth owning.

They also look GREAT with stag or fancy grips...and Melvin Purvis chased Pretty Boy Floyd, Machinegun Kelly, John Dillinger (the thug on the "bad guy" target), and Bonnie & Clyde with a nickel plated one. It may have had ivory grips. See ? They're beautiful. Classic. American. And built for the cartridge.

I must have deleted the darn thing, maybe I can find it on one of those morbid jihadist sites. It was linked through azzam.com at one time, but it keeps getting taken down. It may still be on hubby's laptop.

You don't say what your primary use will be, for this gun.

To shoot bad guys with if they approach me in a menacing manner. Teasing you now...

I just wanted to move up to a semi-automtic that was not too terribly heavy with a full clip. The .357 snub I own is fine for home. I'm not so worried about recoil, this can be overcome with practice and adjustment. Weight is a concern. I wanted opinions of others who own these type guns. Thanks for your valuable input.

that was beautiful.
also the fact that if the feces hits the oscillator, .45
ammo will be around.

Hopefully Squantos will be stopping in soon, and will offer you some sage advice. I think you've pretty-much heard it, though.

Don't pick it up, unless you're prepared to buy it..
Most of these guns get sold - to people who never intended to buy a new .45... But, once you pick it up - it sells itself.. They, sadly, are NOT cheap.

It just feels GOOD in your hand... VERY LIGHT WEIGHT compared to other knockoffs of the 1911 45s... I own several large caliber pistols - and I must admit, this "pretty" almost sissy looking pistol, the Kimber --is the most pleasant and reliable to shoot.

The Ultra CDP - pictured, also COMES with very bright night sights... They look like light bulbs in a dark room - permitting you to line up the sights in the dark.

Check it out.. before you buy anything.

Goodness... you have such a way with words. I enjoyed reading that post. My secret desire is to competition shoot, but there is not alot of support for such a thing in this household at the moment. I usually get my way, it just takes a little time.

BTW-Your post is kinda sexy to me. /blushes

I'm going to go to Carters tomorrow and look around, you have me intriged with the little Kimber. I'm liking the idea of the sights as well. What is the going price for such a nice looking pistol?

Thanks. it's hard to judge size from pics, I didn't realize it was so large. One thing that bothers me about my .357 revolver is that it only holds 5 hollow points./smiles
