Congressmen Jim McDermott and David Bonior have "MISLED" the American people about their Vietnam service.
During their Baghdad press conference, both McDermott and Bonior touted their Vietnam combat service, while calling President Bush a liar and praising Sadam Hussein's openness and cooperation.
Upon returning to the U.S., the two congressmen held a press conference and again highlighted their Vietnam combat service, as an obvious measure to boost their qualifications to remark on the horrors of war.
Following the news conference, McDermott appeared on MSNBC and once again clearly established at the onset of the interview that he had served in Vietnam.
And most recently, Major Garrett of Fox News reported that he had just talked with Bonoir and McDermott, and noted that both of them had "fought in the Vietnam War"
But easily available evidence indicates neither of them ever left the safety of the CONUS.
According to Congress Merge Online, McDermott's military experience is shown as:
Professional Experience (including Military):
Long Beach Naval Station, US Navy Medical Corps,1968-70
Private Practitioner, 1970-87
According to the Detroit Free Press (May 18, 2002), Bonoir's military experience is:
"...He enlisted in the Air Force after receiving his draft notice because enlisting meant he had more control over where he might be stationed; getting drafted most likely would mean being sent to Vietnam. He served in California in 1968-72 and earned his master's degree at the same time."
Why the press blindly buys off on what these two traitors say is incredible.
Just a couple of the standard journalism questions would show these two as the liars and traitors they really are:
When were you in Vietnam?
What campaign/service ribbons were you awarded?
Why are you lying about Vietnam combat service, when both of you spent your military time in the State of California ?
Just maybe someone from the press will see this and take the both of them to task.

Just like my dad and George W Bush served during Vietnam didn'thave to go over because they were flying/working on aircraft that didn't get sent over, Baghdad Jim and Baghdad Bonior also served.
The difference is the President and my Dad don't have to hide their political beliefs behind service during Vietnam to cover their idiotic naive asses.
You serve where you serve when your told. Nothing more.
But for Baghdad Jim to infer that he served in Vietnam like some hardcore boonie rat when the closest he ever came to combat was listening to vets recount their nightmares is beyond the pale.
I always thought he was incountry doing his work and now it turns out he was stationed CONUS the whole time.
What loser.

I think they can technically be called Vietnam-era veterans, which is a far cry from a Vietnam vet.

I heard on a local talk show yesterday that Bonoir was an Air Force cook. Frying bacon is not without danger and his heroism should be respected.

Permit "ForGod'sSake" (a fine east-Texan patriot if ever there were) to better acquaint you with FreeRepublic's own CCRM.
Sounds like you'd really *like* & get along well with the people at CCRM.

That a politician, and a
democrat politician at that, would lie is hardly surprising. They are 'lovers and makers of lies'.
But I would expect their lies to be less blatant, less easily checked. I would expect something that could plausibly be framed as a 'he said - she said' argument. I would expect something a little muddier, something with a maddeningly subjective aspect to it...
That they would lie so wantonly, so shamelessly, about something as easily and objectively verified as this is frankly chilling.

By their own remarks, Jim McDermott and David Bonior have shown themselves to be totally irrelevent on the issue of Saddam Hussein and the threat from his leadership in Iraq. Questioning the veracity of President Bush, while on Iraqi soil, is an outrage that borders on treasonous behavior. It is nothing less, then giving aid and comfort to the enemy. At the very least, McDemott and Bonier should have to face ethics charges through debate of the full House membership.

Would someone in Washington, please call Bonior and McDermott's office and ask point blank if they served in Viet Nam?
They specifically said in their interview on Sunday, and in the press conference today, that both served in Viet Nam. They didn't say they served in the military during the Viet Nam years, they said they served IN Viet Nam.
We need to verify the truth. If it's true that one or both did not serve in Viet Nam, but we have to be certain of our facts...then we need to alert every media outlet.

Why don't you call NW news with this little tidbit of information? I think they always like a breaking news tip, maybe KIRO, also.
