The international community must use the United Nations' route to settle the Iraqi crisis, former US President Bill Clinton said.
President Clinton told the Labour Party conference in Blackpool that the international community could provoke undesirable consequences if it mishandled the crisis over Saddam Hussein.
"We will not allow ourselves to be defeated by tyrants with weapons of mass destruction. That will not happen," he said.
Yes, Bill, you rather tried to appease them before the defeat occured. Or gave them access to America's secrets for campaign cash. - Ivan
"Whatever we do we have to have a care for the security of our nation, the character of our people and the future of our children."
Bill mentioned "the children" at least a dozen times in this nauseating speech - Ivan
Global community
President Clinton stressed the importance of a global community in dealing with poverty, disease and terrorism throughout the world.
Meaning - fork over your cash to them so I can look good, and bomb them whenever you need to cover up dallying with an intern - Ivan
"We must respond in a way that is consistent with the larger obligation we all have to build a more integrated global community.
Who is this 'we', Bill? Ivan
"Of course we have to stand against weapons of mass destruction," he said.
Translation: "They may take out a few hotties I haven't gotten my hands on in the process" - Ivan
He added that Saddam must be dealt with diplomatically, and that military action must be a last resort after the United Nations resolution of "unfettered inspections" is given a chance.
"But if we can we have to do it in the context of building the international institutions that in the end we will have to depend upon to guarantee the peace and security of the world and the human rights of all people everywhere."
Clintonian meaningless blather - Ivan
World's problems
President Clinton voiced his support for Prime Minister Tony Blair, and told the conference that the world's problems would only be solved through politics.
"Politics matters and even if you're a former president there are some things we can accomplish for the common good only through the common institution of our elected representatives," he said.
"The world has a whole lot of problems but we haven't had the chance to bring it together for very long.
"So we should be upbeat and grateful your party is in power at a time when you have the chance to make all the difference."
Emphasis on the almost, mo mhúirnín bán. ;)

The problem is that as much as he may want to, he can get on his kneepads for himself. ;)

Your ordering our great military to fight on the side of Muslim terrorists and against innocent Christians in Kosovo was a "last resort?" A nation that didn't even remotely threaten us? May you burn in Hell, Slick.
Huh? What did he say...? In the context of his being in charge for 8 of the past 10 years, doesn't this read just like another piece of mindless word drool from the skunk? I can't believe he gets paid to utter sentences like these.Could he possibly be subtly referring/complaining to not having a 3rd term and having 9/11/01 happen on his watch? As in " I earned a 3rd term and they didn't let me have it ". That was my first reaction.
That does sound in character for Weird Bill, mo mhile gra. One wonders if he had Buddy killed out of envy for his flexibility.

It's difficult to determine whether Blair's actions as of late have been taken because of political expediency or because he's actually taking a stand for what he believes. Either way, I'm glad he's onboard.
I just made this The Clinton Legacy Vinyl Bumper Sticer (3.5" x 10") this morning. It is also available in a Magnetic Bumper Sticker and a License Plate. These are being uploaded to my 0cents.com site today
TRAITOR!!!!! TRAITORS ONE AND ALL!!!!
Chamberlain and Hitler
Democrats and Iraq
When all the member nations of the UN are democracies, then MAYBE we can rely on them to genuinely care about peace, security, and human rights. In the meantime, they're just a bunch of anti-American kleptocracies interested only in our money.
In a word, no.
He did say several times how he was enjoying being in the limelight again. Would you PLEASE confine him to your shores. Between him and Scott Ritter it's a wonder that Satan didn't drag us beneath the waves this week.
