I don't believe any of this, anymore than I believe the Torch just dropped out in spite of Clinton begging him otherwise. The screws were put to him, he was forced out, which means there is a plan in place. I can't believe the Demos did this without having something or someone in mind. But just what is it? Enquiring minds want to know...

My take is that Lautenburg (sp) will run and win, serve two years and then "someone" else will be appointed after he resigns.

The Torch has been extinguished. May the forces of good bestow the common people of New Jersey to their just cause. HOO RAH!

got to love it though, watching them melt - but wait the press will have more to come!

O'Reilly interviewd a NJ political observer who said every Dem running for dog catcher on up was panicked they were
going to lose w/ Tori at the top of the ticket. And all of them put the screws to party leaders to force him out.

As a Sopranos fan, and considering the problem wouldn't be there if the Torch flamed out, if this were a movie, I can only imagine that he would have dropped out of the race because he knew he was a target for a hit.
It makes no sense - - except possibly for his ego - - for him to drop out alive.
If he were deceased, there would be no problem for the Dems.
The gov could just appoint Lautenberg. But alive, he's as big liability out of the race almost as he was in it.

Why is it so hard to believe they just screwed up?
As a long-time Charger fan I can tell you that when they entered a long bad patch a few years ago one of the things that made it bad was that the coaches just could not manage the clock to save their lives. Maybe that's what's happening here: The Democrats in NJ are stressed out and rattled and somehow they let the clock run too long on Torch and now they are stuck with his name on the ballot.
The Democrats will get their fighting form back eventually but they are presently in disarray. Just ask their voters.
