Although U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink, D-Hawaii, is dead, the Democrat establishment likes her a lot more than U.S. Sen. Robert Torricelli, who is technically still alive, even if his candidacy, reputation and future aren't.
For day after day Hawaii's corruption-plagued Democrats - it's gotten so bad in the one-party state that some of the crooks are finally going to prison and Republican (!) candidate Linda Lingle has a good shot at becoming governor - covered up the seriousness of Mink's illness. When she finally died it was too late to remove her name from the ballot.
Now, Fox News Channel's Brit Hume reported tonight, the Dems are fighting to keep the dead woman's name on the ballot.
In left-wing Hawaii, one of the few states to support a second term for the disastrous Jimmy Carter, it's a cinch that she'll be "re-elected." Then the Democrat governor can pick a replacement to "represent" the island oligarchy.
Heck, it worked for Missouri widow Jean Carnahan.
Will the Torch shed more tears after learning that his party values him less than a dead congresswoman?

This is incorrect. The governor cannot replace the representative. Instead, we will spend $2 million on a special election for the Demorcrat's choice.

What about Linda Lingle's chances? Any truth to the fact that Hawaii might elect a Republican gov if say she gets coattails from a Bush Iraq strike?

They were going to lose anyway, so why not:
Do commercials where the Republican stnds simply before the camera saying how sorry they are to hear of the other person's passing and how they will promise to work now even harder for Hawaii in light of this loss, ending with may she rest in peace! (FADE TO BLACK)
Works for me.

As Rush said...the dems have hit a new low. They have always used the dead as voters...but now they bring them on as candidates. LOL

You are absolutely correct. Governors can appoint Senators, but NOT members of the House of Representatives. There will need to be a special election.
If the deceased Ms. Mink wins the election, the seat will be unfilled until a new election. This could come into play if the Dems were to somehow take a statistical 1-seat lead in the HR. However, that seat would be held by a deceased rep, and we would have a tie...Hmmm.

Yeah, I guess they figure why not since they get the sypathy vote.
In thruth though, when was the last time Hawaii ever elected a Republican over a Democrat in that position?
