Quorum Report is reporting that a new Republican Poll by Arthur Finkelstein shows Chris Bell with a 1 point lead over Tom Reiser.
TOPICS: Politics/Elections; US: Texas
KEYWORDS: bell; bensen; elections; houston; reiser; republican; texas; ushouse
Of course that probably means Bell is up 5 points, but that's still remarkable because that district, currently held by Ken Bensen, should have been a slam dunk for the RAT.

Tom Reiser is a great candidate, very hard working and willing to put his own money into the race. He has been really trying to reach out to Latino's in the district (he speaks Spanish) It's still a really tough district (something like 35 or 40% minority), but he might pull it off.

There's also a Libertarian and a Green running so I don't know how many votes they may be taking or if they'll get enough to even impact the outcome either way.

Bell finished a distant 3rd in the Houston mayoral race last year.
He should be very beatable.

In theory yes; however, we are against democrats - who will do ANYTHING to win... The race is not over until November 5th when the polls close and the votes are counted.
To: PetroniDE
Ah, yes.... dimocrats.....
Dead/fictitious/imprisoned voters, dead/imprisoned candidates.... dims running the election, dims counting the votes.....
On second thought, Bell may well be a shoe-in.
To: pbranham
This race is winnable. Reiser is running a smart campaign, and the District only leans Democrat.

HC: This is the race GOPcap and I told you guys to get involved with instead of the Wong race. This is a very winnable district, but footwork is needed. There are parts of this district like Pasadena that are major pools of people to bring to our side, we just haev to reach them personally, rather than via Channel 2.

There's a lot of overlap between this district and the Wong district in River Oaks, Bellaire, and all that area. Keep that in mind when you volunteer putting up signs or if you block walk on your own. If possible carry literature for both and definately carry signs for both.

I never thought the race would be this close. The guy looked like a loser from the start, I will say a few extra prayers for him and get on the phone this weekend. I will also try to walk one weekend for him, though I am pretty tied up in Ft Bend until the election.

Reiser is a good candidate. He should have been the GOP nominee in 2000, but the Phil Sudan people, with a little help from Gary Polland, played a few dirty tricks to get Sudan the nomination. Reiser has the money. But as I said before, this district can only be won withfoot work. The Pasadena area in particular is not impressed with who spends the most to buy their votes.
