In Hawaii, the last date for a candidate to withdraw from an election is 10 October. If the law is applied honestly (the same issue is on the table in New Jersey), Hawaii will recognize that Rep. Mink has made the ultimate "withdrawal from the race."

Then, the election will proceed on 5 November with the three remaining live candidates. Whoever wins will serve a normal two-year term. And no "special elections" will be required. But that's only if the law is applied honestly.

CB, isn't Mink's current status as fertilizer certain proof of her lack of qualification for the ballot. Doesn't a candidate have to be a resident of the State in order to be qualified to run for election to the House?
