Financed Voter Reform?
Thin Air ^ | Me

Posted on 09/30/2002 11:25:02 AM PDT by Texaggie79

Ok, call me a dreamer, but I have the right to dream don't I?

What if we pushed Financed Voter Reform? Calling for restrictions to be placed on those who can vote.

In CFR McCain claimed that politicians can't possibly make principled choices when they are receiving money from special interests. To invert that, how can voters possibly make a principled vote when their livelyhood rests on a certain party?

If you receive government assistance, how can your vote not be biased? Should employees be able to vote on their wages? (I know our congress critters do this)

What if we installed a voter incentive to be free from government assistance to enjoy the ability to vote? Whereas if you receive gov assistance, you cannot vote, and in order to be able to, you must pull your own weight. Would this not give people on the public dole the motivation to get off of it? (well we all know the answer but liberals say that voting is the most sacred right, so according to them, they WOULD be motivated to support themselves)

End of dream........... (yawn... it was good while it lasted)

This would require an amendment of the Constitution. Considering that such an amendment would require either 2/3 of both Houses of Congress or the legislatures of 2/3 of the states, it ain't going to happen.

For one thing, there are probably more people getting "income" from the politicians than there are not.

I believe only taxpayers should be allowed to vote. Whether it's income or social security taxes, "no pay, no play." Let the government workers vote, if they pay taxes, but not welfare recipients. I'm not sure what to do about retirees collecting social security. I suppose, if they are paying income taxes, we should continue to let them vote. They probably have some other source of income (pensions, personal savings, etc.) that they were responsible for while working.

I wonder how much it would actually affect election numbers if all welfare, or anyone living off of government assistance (other than Soc Sec) were not allowed to vote.
