Sept. 30 Beleaguered by ethics charges, a tearful New Jersey Sen. Robert Torricelli dropped out of his re-election race Monday. I will not be responsible for the loss of the Democratic majority in the United States Senate, Torricelli told a news conference in Trenton, N.J. I will not allow it to happen. Although the Sept. 16 legal deadline has passed, Democratic Gov. James McGreevey said the party had filed a petition with the state Supreme Court to put a new name on the Nov. 5 ballot. |

I keep reading that. How can they do that? Explain, please.

Nope. There will be no postponement of any election.
New Jersey will elect a Senator on election day this November.
To: Torie
Did I hear Torch say he is filing an action with SCOTUS to take him off the ballot? That is very, very odd. I doubt that 5 of them will find time to fit his emergency (and probably meritless, but I don't claim to know everything) petition into their busy schedule.I thought the SCOTUS only reviewed existing cases to rule on their constitutionality, no? Can you just show up at their front door and ask for a ruling on something that hasn't worked its way up through the ranks?
I can't believe my Senator, Reid, smiles and says they've had another unproductive day in the senate. Says it appears that the other side doesn't want to vote on the bills.
It's a dem that's out giving so-long speeches and causing more disruption to the people's business due to his scandals. I hope all these dems are seeing the writing on the wall.

"Repeal the 17th amendment. Let the statehouses decide." Totally agree.

Freeperthon UPDATE!!!!!!!
To: Just another Joe
At exactly 25 minutes past this hour, this FReepathon will have been underway for two days.
Jim just reported that we are only $495 short of the 50% mark!
We are going to make this a record breaking FReepathon.
Way to go, FReepers!

Right now, my dream is for Bill Clinton to actually move to NJ and be the replacement candidate(a willing servant since NJ had such trouble find a candidate on short notice, dontcha know). I don't think even NJ would go for that, and the national backlash would be a solid Senate majority, tipping the balance in SD, MO, MN, OR, CO, TX, and perhaps even IA(Harkin scandal synergy), GA, and LA.
Which is why that is just a dream, the DNC isn't close to that stupid. But one can wish.

Bravo, Great letter

"Even the "Die Hard Dems" are repulsed by his speech."Good.

"Repeal the 17th amendment. Let the statehouses decide." That would go a LONG way to restore our Republic. The original purpose of the Senate was to preserve the power of the States against Federal encroachment. In 1913, three things happened: the Constitution was amended to have Senators elected directly, the Income Tax amendment was passed which allowed the Feds to have unlimited funds available to them, and the Federal Reserve was created to have power over the national banking system and economy
I would vote to reverse all three

Its just one seat. I mean are the Dems that vunerable?
To: deport
You're asking me? You're da fact man!
To: Diddle E. Squat
What's this about Clinton? Was he there?
To: marajade
Isn't this a bad move on behalf of the Democrats nationally? Maybe this is a "firewall". By using the fall of NJ to the evil GOP, the balance of the RAT races can be nationalized on the prospect of blocking a GOP takeover.

Whose speech?
