It's an opportunity for Gov. Jeb Bush and Democratic rival Bill McBride to run the kind of campaign that might turn on voters in November, rather than turn them away in dismay at the sight of blood sport.
We've already had a full week to taste-test the clean air of a positive campaign in the paid commercials between our favorite shows, and it's sweet.
But experience tells us this respite won't last long.

This appeared in the Sunday edition of the left-leaning Sentinel. I usually don't read editorials in this paper since I KNOW which side they favor, but the title caught my eye. It started off well - but lost all credibility by citing only GOP attack ads. Of course FL residents have been blasted by as many DNC negative attack ads. Frankly, I'm delighted to see some aggressive ads coming from the GOP here.
McBride had a chance to lay out his plan for FL in the first debate - I'm still waiting to hear it. All he was able to come up with was "Jeb's out of touch". No, McBride, I think you're the one out of touch. Below is an email I sent to Mr. Silva regarding his lack of fair & balanced article.
BTW - You'll note another name in this article that should ring some bells........... HARRY JACOBS. He was the "patriotic" attorney who in the 2000 election sued to try and discount MILITARY absentee votes. Nice guy.
I sent the following email to Mr. Silva:
Mr. Silva:
I applaud your article encouraging all candidates to wage a clean campaign. All voters would welcome more substance on issues and less on mud-slinging. However, I question your slanted views of only GOP ads being negative. I've seen plenty of DNC ads that offer no solutions but plenty of negative and sometimes untruthful accusations.
Your future comments would have more impact if you practiced fair and balanced journalism, rather than slanting the news. One fact the media and politicians have not realized is that most citizens no longer rely on either of them for accurate information. With the fast growing internet and FoxNews, we are able to receive immediate unbiased information.

Typical lib practice is to sling mud at your opponent late in the game... then quickly vow to have a clean campaign and get the opponent to agree. That way, the libs get one good hit in and prevent any response.

Actually, I thought senile James Stockdale (Ross Perot's running mate in the 1992 Presidential election) did better debating than McBride did in the debate last Friday night against Gov. Jeb Bush.
No wonder the media is begging Jeb for mercy.

the kind of campaign that might turn on voters in November"Back off Jeb, and let South Florida ward workers decide."

Mr. Silva is up early -- here's the short reply I just received. Any facts regarding FL DNC ads anyone has will be passed on to him.
So far, only the Republican Party has run attack ads in the governors race. Not bias, fact. I appreciate applause, but open your eyes to a fact. You wont find any different facts about ads in the governors race on the Internet.

Silva is either stupid or biased. Take your choice. He uses the true and emotional facts of McBride's layoffs of 230 people at his firm......against Bush. Huh? And says that the Republicans saying so, isn't fair?
Florida has been known as a job growth state. Northern, long term democrat states have been losing jobs and buisness, but Florida has added them. Mostly because Florida isn't anti-buisness like the states controled by Democrats.
Anyways, Republicans and economists have been saying for decades that if labor rates rise, job losses occur. So, McBride introduces the policy of a $12/hr minimum and the firm keeps the policy, but lays off 230 people. Direct connection between decades of Republican arguments and the predicted effect. And McBride wants to do the same to the entire Florida economy. Maybe if Silva wasn't so biased he would of stated the direct connection....that HE knew. What a liar.
On the macro picture, many Florida workers arn't worth $12/hr. As some Freepers know, I work in Florida in construction of highend homes and do some consulting at a small manufactuing buisness. Either because of sloth, or because they are right off the boat and don't know what a light switch is, a lot of lower level workers arn't skilled or motivated enough. And labor is so expensive that it is either be productive (fast!), mover off shore, or shutdown.
That is the issue with job growth, of which wages and manditory wages at that, are critically improtant in this campagine. Naturally if the Democrats get going, $12 is just the opener.
Maybe Mr. Silva's paper should introduce a $50K/year minimum for workers with a $150k/yr for "professionals". Lets see who gets fired. Either that or drop the price of the paper to a dime. That would make it affordible for my living wage.

It is a new RAT strategy to complain that their opponent is running "attack" or "negative" ads.
The novelty here is that it works whether the charge is true or not. It is being deployed very effectively in the NH Senate campaign, where Jeanne Shaheen is crying that John Sununu is attacking her viciously-even before his ads are running.
It worked in NY for Hillary!. If it works for Shaheen, look for it everywhere.

Jim, the way it works is that if the Republicans tell the truth about the democrats, it is an attack.
Of course the democrats can say or do anyhing they please and this is o.k.
Case in point:
In the '00 elections. The democrats screamed "Count every vote."
Sounds like a noble concept doesn't it.
Not exactly. Because they knew that the military would vote for Bush overwhelmingly they did everything in their power to keep the military personnel and their families from beig able to vote.
They , probably for the firsttime in history, forbade pollong places on military reservations, did everything in their power to disrupt the flow of absentee ballots overseas to the military personnel stationed there. Then they did everything to disqualify these ballots in their power. They lied[standard m.o. for a democrat], they cheated[again standard operating procedure for a democrat]they filed lawsuits.
However, they screamed for the votes of unqualified voters[ convicted felons, illegal aliens, voters who voted more than one time] to be counted and counted over and over.
I don't know how it is in any other state, but in Florida it is more than a nuiscance for someone who is not qualified [ convicted felon, illegal alien, ect.] to vote, it is a crime.
A good rule of thumb to follow is: If someone is either a member of the mainstream media or a democrat[ I prefer communist]do not take anything they say at face value.
If they say,"The sun is shining at high noon", do not believe it unless you look out the window and verify.
