The Pro-South comedy 'Sweet Home Alabama' debuted last night with a take of close to 13 million which is slighly under the single day record of 13.3 million for 'Rush Hour' in Spetember.
Since Saturday Night is 'Date Night' expert expect that number to go up and the film to gross close to 40 million for the weekend making Resse Witherspoon second to Julia Roberts as a leading current female star.
A new affinty for films of the south or new star power of Genration X, or a combination of both..you make the call!

From what I hear she still thinks and hangs with the socialists in HOLLYWEIRD. She's no conservative

Who Reese? How socialist can she be for a southern girl?

Carnation Instant B*tch?ROTFL! I've determined anyone who uses he "you lost get over it" line is:
1. Uneducated
2. Not from the South
3. And includes "so what", "who cares", and "whatever" in their rebuttals
Yes, I have friends west of the Mississippi who don't understand it....

She was excellent in the movie Election.
A twisted story, and she plays a very interesting (if strangely familiar -- every high school has its politicians) character. Worth renting if only because you learn all sorts of life lessons from that movie. :o)

Reese's first movie was "The Man in the Moon", made in 1991 when I believe she was only 14. Even then I thought she had that certain "presence" and personality that would make her a success.

Love that chin! You know you're officially an old fart when you see a pretty young thang like Reese or Kirsten Dunst and your first thought is "Whoa, would I like to check out... HER MOM."

I saw her on the Leno show singing that no talent song. She sucks and the song sucks.
"Degrade first the Arts if you'd Mankind Degrade.
Hire Idiots to Paint with cold light & hot shade:
Give high Price for the worst,
leave the best in disgrace,
And with Labours of Ignorance fill every place."

Looking forward to seeing the movie. We liked "Legally Blonde."

Hard to believe, but Reese's blockbuster Sweet Home Alabama actually premiered in Birmingham instead of Hollywood...

Ummm, you're forgetting Bill Clinton is a southerner, and I've been hearing rumors that Reese's mother is biracial and that Reese is a flaming leftie in support of affirmative action.
I'd like to see for myself if Reese's mother is biracial (as people are saying). And if anyone has any links to her political views....

From what I have seen of Witherspoon as a person, I like her. She's happily married, seems grounded, doesn't seem full of herself, and she's a good comic actress. By all appearances, she's the anti-Julia, and the movie biz really needs one of those.
I can forgive her for being in Pleasantville. But while I plan to rent Legally Blonde, I don't think I will be paying nine bucks for Sweet Home. I only see chick flicks when I have a chick, which I don't currently. But that's another story.

We saw Sweet Home Alabama earlier this evening. It was cute, but Legally Blonde was better. The characters in this movie were less likeable and more stereotypical. But Reese Witherspoon is definitely climbing into the first tier of bankable Hollywood stars.

'Sweet Home Alabama' Shatters B.O. Records How exactly did this film 'shatter box office records?'
It still has not beaten Rush Hour 2.
Hence technically it has not broken any box office record (unless the record is for Comedy with Female lead or something like that). However for its niche (comedy) Rush Hour 2 takes the prize.
