To the Editor:
Re "Fellow Democrats Fret and Fume as Torricelli Campaign Struggles" (front page, Sept. 22):
We are New Jersey voters and 9/11 widows who wish that the media would focus on the positive work that Senator Robert G. Torricelli has done. He certainly has been a strong advocate for the nearly 700 affected New Jersey families. For example, he was one of the very early supporters of an independent investigation into all aspects of 9/11, just now supported by the White House, an investigation that we hope will prevent future security failures and save other American lives.
Closer to home, his long record of public service shows that he is a tireless champion of all his constituents. He gets things done, and he stands up for what we believe. That's what our state needs and gets in Washington and what the voters deserve to know.
LISA BEAMER
NIKKI STERN
Princeton, N.J., Sept. 22, 2002
The letter was signed by 10 other 9/11 widows who live in New Jersey.

Boy, is this ever disappointing.....
btw, Sean Hannity will be here in Dayton, OH for a book signing and a speech tonight. He will also be disappointed with Lisa's support of this 'rat.

Someone should point out to the grieving widows the irony of Torch's support of an investigation of 9/11 but his obstruction to his own recent investigation and his efforts to keep the results and memoranda secret. Apparently, a crook who will investigate what you want is enough for some Democrats in N.J. - 'tis a pity.

Another reason women should be kept from voting. Props to Lisa Beamer but this is the truth!

Ditto that. You don't think he was pushing for an investigation for political motives, Lisa, like when he gutted the CIA humint program which may have cost your husband's life?
Disappointing to say the least.

Beamer: "just now supported by the White House". That sounds depressingly like a sneer.

There is no "low" for the Torricelli campaign. The campaign will do and say anything to bring voters back into
his camp. The fact that they went and even asked widows to become involved in the campaign is beyond disgusting.
Torricelli is bad but the campaign staff is even more ugly.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
Torricelli is corrupt scum and the widow besmerches the memory of her husband by identiying with the creep!

My theory: Nikki Stern is probably a Democratic activist who set Lisa Beamer up. She might have asked Lisa Beamer if she would agree to a letter that praised Torricelli for helping the families *period* and Lisa, being a Christian, agreed. And then Nikki came up with this letter slamming the President. I would not be surprised if this backfires and Lisa disassociates herself from it, making it worse for Torricelli.

This is a real shock.
Why would Lisa do such a questional action?
I would have thought she'd stay out of a gutter fight.
Very distubing!

the positive work that Senator Robert G. Torricelli has done. I think while were at it, we should focus on the positive work that Ted Bundy has done with th poor in Florida. So he murdered a few dozen people.....he's helped SO many of Florida's poor. Me thinks this woman has been HAD!

My theory: Nikki Stern is probably a Democratic activist who set Lisa Beamer up. You may be onto something. A google search finds lots of links to NPR, plus Nikki appears to work for a large architectural firm in Princeton.
Princeton is a lib nest and architectural firms are notorious for being home to lefties (I've read articles of how the AIDs virus decimated NY area arch firms in the '80s).
Nikki deserves our sympathy for her loss on 9/11, but leaves little doubt of her politics.
Lisa Beamer should be careful who she associates with.

I agree. Lisa Beamer seems like a sweet, level-headed, and non-political woman. She does not seem the type to independently write this kind of letter to the NY Times. Had to be put up to it. If this is true and she will let herself be used, watch for Lisa to show up with Katie Couric and Matt Lauer some morning in the near future. The Dims must be really desperate over the Torch situation.
