Senator Carnahan Distances Herself from Dascle on War
KMOV TV

Tonight on the Evening News, KMOV, Channel 4 in St. Louis ran part of an interview with Senator Carnahan that will run in full tomorrow.
In the interview she distances herself from Dascle's comments demanding an apology from President Bush. When asked directly whether the President should apologize she sideskirted the issue and appeared to take the high road.
In addition, when asked about Iraq, she surprised the reporter by saying that President Bush should be given the strongest possible declaration of support. When asked if this didnt go counter to what the Democrat leadership would want, she used that as a jumping off point to say that he just doesnt always go along with her leadership. She proudly pointed to her vote for the Bush tax cut and also on some Missippi River issues. She may be smarter than we think. Either that or her handlers are scared.

Like all Democrats in personal extremis, she smells the coffee quite well (and it's pungent).
Just another example of the Democrats modus operandi: Fool as many as you can, and hope the rest have been paid off.
Methinks she's probably done unless a drunk judge can be found to hold the booths open for some folk's 5th and 6th time voting in St. Louis.

How about that. Senator Carnahan has constituents. Proof positive that the Dems in the Senate would vote their personal interests over that of that of the people they are elected to represent as long as they had four long years to help them forget it. This close to an election, well they just might have to do the right thing.

She is just desperate and trying to swing a few votes by latching on to Bush. If she loses - the Senate immediately the next day returns to GOP control.

Today on Rush's show, Rush's sub (Roger something) took a phone call from a woman in St. Louis. The woman was concerned that what happened in 2000 with the polls staying open for hours past the appointed time, and people being bussed in to vote, will happen again to boost Carnahan's win. Roger asked her if others had this concern, and she said "Yes". He also asked her about polling place security, but if she gave an answer, I don't remember it. Maybe the federal government should monitor the St. Louis polling places as they will do in Broward and Miami/Dade. This will be a hot race. If Carnahan loses, her oponent takes office immediately, and there's another temporary flip in the Senate. I'm surprised the Dims aren't out there in droves campaigning, or whatever they do before elections. This is one election (besides the Florida Governor's election) that needs to be watched closely.

CLANCYJ WROTE: "She is just desperate and trying to swing a few votes by latching on to Bush. If she loses - the Senate immediately the next day returns to GOP control. "
I heard today (on either Rush Limbaugh's show or our local show) that Dasshole can PREVENT the Repubs from immediately retaking the Senate for some reason (I've forgotten the reason). BUT, the Repubs supposedly CAN somehow get around Dasshole's obstruction and FORCE votes even if they aren't able to take over the Senate itself.

Trent Lott will become Majority leader, this can't be stopped. Dashole can obstruct a reorganization resolution, which will prevent the Republicans from getting the gavels of all the committees. However, just as Dashole took the energy bill out of committee and directly to the floor, Lott will be able to do the same with Judge's, appropriation bills, etc.

Yes, I heard Rush too - thank goodness for Rush. When I'm confused on how to interpret something going on - Rush always explains it so I can understand it. Many times, he has eased my mind.
If they get the senate back - the democrats can call for a resolution (?) (the rule making portion of installing a new senate). This would stall actual work until January. Yet, the GOP could subvert this by a vote on pending legislation to be handled - ex. the judge confirmation. If there were enough votes, it would force the senate to act on the confirmation.

I'm surprised the Dims aren't out there in droves campaigning, or whatever they do before elections. Both Carnahan and Talent are running very heavy schedules of campaign ads. Doubt they will be running all that much more in the days immediately before the election. Seems as though Carnahan is running more than Talent but that may be because some of the ads are from the AFL-CIO.

Have the Talent people looked into how much Carny $$$ is coming from out-of-state sources? It might be of interest to decent voters.

Carnahan is screwed. If she tries to ride Bush coat tails, her base will be ticked off and desert her (i.e. the extreme left wing naderites), if she goes all liberal and green, then the moderates will spank her. She's in no mans land and she could even tick off the major constituency, the dead people vote, if you go towards the center, some of them dead folks won't vote for ya and might go green or somthing.

She will hold this phony pro-American posture until after re-election and then she will join in with the rest of the leftist "Rats" when it is crunch time.
Hey Missouri, don't fall for it!

"Like all Democrats in personal extremis, she smells the coffee quite well (and it's pungent)."Sounds like the rats are jumping ship, doesn't it?

However, just as Dashole took the energy bill out of committee and directly to the floor, Lott will be able to do the same with Judge's, appropriation bills, etc.The Senate and House each have power, granted by the Constitution, that permit them to refuse to seat a new member.
Missouri law cannot trump that. Nor can the co-equal Supreme Court force the Senate or House to act.
I think this Lame-Duck GOP Majority will be stymied by the Rats.
Some voices on the right were urging Trent Lott to fight the seating of Hillary Clinton. Trent wouldn't pull a stunt like that, but I'd bet my lungs and liver that Dash-hole would.
In a New York millisecond.
