Moss makes apologies, leaves traffic agent off list

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Randy Moss apologized to his team, family and friends Thursday -- but not to the woman he's accused of pushing with his car while trying to make a turn.

Moss spent a night in jail after the Tuesday night episode, which resulted in two misdemeanors but no felony charges. Moss will start Sunday's game against Seattle, and his agent said the team will fine him, although the amount hasn't yet been determined.

"I'm sorry for what I've caused and what I brought on everyone who really cares about me or this team," Moss said during a news conference. "I am human. I am a man. I do take care of my responsibilities, and I stand up for my actions."

Moss, however, made no direct mention of Amy Zaccardi, the 27-year-old traffic control officer who police say stepped in front of Moss' car to stop him from making an illegal turn. Police say the 25-year-old Moss slowly pushed her along the street, stopping when she fell off the car.

Zaccardi, who's a city employee but not a police officer, was not seriously hurt.

"I don't know if trouble is out to find me," Moss said. "But I'm certainly not out to find trouble," Moss said.

Moss said the arrest was especially unfortunate considering all the attention he's received for being a team leader early in the season.

"I'm trying to be there, trying to change, trying to change for the best," he said.

Moss whistled as he walked out of jail Wednesday. He was charged with careless driving and failure to obey a traffic officer. He faces a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine on each charge. He will be arraigned Oct. 2.

Police also said they found a marijuana cigarette in Moss' car, an amount that would qualify as a petty misdemeanor, with a fine of up to $200. But no drug charge has been filed. Moss' agent, Dante DiTrapano, and his attorney, Joe Friedberg, have said that the marijuana did not belong to Moss.

Moss didn't directly say who the marijuana belonged to, but he reiterated that other people have had use of the car.

"I know they had to discipline me, for what reason I don't know," Moss said.

Under NFL rules, Moss will undergo mandatory "evaluation" because he was charged. Any disciplinary action would follow a conviction or guilty plea.

I gotcha.
I don't know what to say about Moss. He's such an outstanding player but such a huge distraction for the team. Since leaving Minnesota, I've lost some track of who the prime players are. I was VERY pleased to see Dennis Green get bounced. Maybe the new guy should bring a big broom in and clean house. They aren't going anywhere now.

"I know they had to discipline me, for what reason I don't know," Moss said.

Wow. What a dumbass.

Moss is definitely the low IQ type. How did he ever manage to stay elegible in college?

He has been in a series of outbursts. In 1996 he and a girlfriend were arrested for assulting an ex-girlfriend's car. Then he was charged with assault on a woman who now is the mother of two of his children (but to whom he was never married). The charges naturally were dropped.

The claim that the pot did not belong to him had a Clintonesque ring.

When his being charged was reported on CourtTV one anchor, James Curtis, actually said, "I wish him the best."

He allegedly did do it at least once a few years back when he was reported to complain that he was being treated bad because he was black.

The Cowboys would take him but he would have to admit the pot was his. Jerry likes his guys to prove they use drugs.

Too bad he isn't a baseball player, the Rangers would take him (they take racists, thieves and head cases like Carl Everett) so he'd fit right in.

Doesn't strike me as much different from brandishing a firearm. Why isn't he being charged with assault with a deadly weapon?

Because witnesses at the scene reported that it was clear that he wasn't trying to hurt someone. Therefore no felony charges are warranted.

I heard him on the radio this morning. He was yelling at a female reporter who dared to ask a question. Went from zero to ballistic in nothing flat. This guy doesn't have a clue that he did anything wron

We applaud Rumsfield on the forum everyday for being brash with moron reporters. Why is this guy supposed to listen to reporter crap.

I saw the exchange on the news. He's another Rae Carruth waiting to happen...

Moss seemed to be under control while Chris Carter was around

If you had followed the Vikings for the last year you would realize that Carter was the problem in his final years. Players report jealousy and a messiah complex.

If I were the judge, I'd sentence Moss to a year in jail not to see justice done, but to improve the Vikings' passing game.

He pushed her with his car till she fell down. If he had pushed her with his hands till she fell down, that would be assault, too.

Moss is a long time bad actor. He was a high risk draft choice.

Part of his deal with the Vikings was to assign him a "keeper" to keep such incidents from happening.

Had worked pretty well so far.

Uh, please don't insult Donald Rumsfeld by comparing him to
Randy Moss. Randy Moss has gotten away with a great deal of
illegal activities due to his 'celebrity' status. Mr. Rumsfeld has never stooped to using the dirty tricks Randy
Moss has. There is an acceptable time and place for putting
the reporters in their place. In front of a jail after being arrested for endangering and injuring a traffic officer is certainly not the place. I think he should be
booed off the field at his next game.

I just realized that there are spooky parallels here between Moss and Mike Tyson

Well they're both black, is that it. You realy aren't going to equate careless driving with rape are you? Or squirting a referee with water? Or a high school fight with a racist student? Or smoking MJ in college?

The high school fight with the racist student cost Moss a scolarship to Notre Dame. OK, No problem.

The MJ test cost him a scholarship to Fl State. Again,OK.

The charges against him at Marshall college were bogus and dropped. They still cost him his draft status. OK.

To equate any of this with Rape or Tysons' misogynist actions is utter nonsense.
