I remain amazed that Daschle, after sitting through the "Bush knew" fiasco last year and allowing people like Hillary Clinton make veiled accusations about the Presidient, now accuses the President of politicization!Excellent point which certainly bears repeating, Miss Marple!

I heard Zell Miller was outraged at DemocRATS for this. I wish he'd switch to GOP:
But in the short time I've been here, I've never seen such a clear choice as there is on this issue. For me, there are no shades of gray. It is clear cut.
Why in the name of homeland security do we want to take power away from the President that he possessed on 9/11?
Power that Jimmy Carter had. Power that Ronald Reagan had. Power that the first President Bush had and power that Bill Clinton had.
Have we lost our minds?
Do you really want to face the voters with that position, that vote writ large on your forehead, like a Scarlet letter? And even larger on a 36-inch television ad two weeks before election day?

Thanks for the ping, PERFECT article! Get Dasshole off caffeine! LOL.

The civil service unions really don't have that much power. It is just that Democrats are attracted to federal employment and, in effect, beome the permanent government despite changes in administration. The Senate is trying to protect reliably Democratic voters in NOVA. Look at Justice, despite the accession of Ashcroft, the most conservative AG since forever, because the President only get to appoint the very top of the batting order. Even conservative, however,, have a vested interest in the status quo, because the rules do give them some protection against their bureaucratic bosses.

Labor owns most Democrats in Congress, but they control Tom Daschle to the point that he will not only bend over and grab his ankles, hell even pay for the Vaseline.

***If Daschle's "outrage" was the product of 48 hours of consultations, what does that tell us about how Dana Milbank cooked up his article in yesterday's Washington Post?***
Exactly, aristeides. And how does one explain the tape CNN had ready to play that referred to Daschle as the Clark Kent of the Senate? It was a gushy sales job of how wonderful Daschle is.
IMO it was a coordinated attack on President Bush. Democrats, Wash. Post, CNN....all a pattern cut from the same cloth.

I have found that what really makes someone angry is when the truth is told about them.Bush didn't back off an inch. He repeated his statement last night.

Labor opposes Bushs efforts to demand that employees of the new department of Homeland Security actually perform their duties and prove their worth. Instead, they want what organized labor always wants in a government job a haven for incompetents, a place where achievement is stifled because all decisions rest with union bosses, not employers.Bump to that!

IMO it was a coordinated attack on President Bush. Democrats, Wash. Post, CNN....all a pattern cut from the same cloth. Definitely. The midget's office clued the media on this. Cable news had their pundits lined up ahead of time, IMO. The analysis and reaction on tv was too swift to think anything else.

I heard Zell Miller was outraged at DemocRATS for this. I wish he'd switch to GOP:I've called and called. He supports the President, yet campaigns for Cleland instead of Chambliss. More from Zell: "Outrageous arrogance. What else can you call it when the interests of the few are raised above the welfare of the whole country?"
Dim politics. Walk towards the light Senator.

The saddest part of this is Daschle IS right. This whole war with Iraq is purely political, and purely designed to keep Republican poll numbers up for the mid-term elections.
The people who are criticising Daschle are right, too. If it were a official Dim sitting in the White House,Daschle would be all for it. The ONLY reason he is objecting is because he seems this hurting the Dims during the mid-term elections.
Call me old-fashioned,but I'd like to see a better reason for sending our youth into harms way and for spending our fortune than keeping the political class employed.
