A Sawgrass rebellion Moment of Reflection
Free Republic Tread on Sawgrass Rebellion ^ | Monday, September 23, 2002 | Dave Jenest (borrowed goods unknown)

Posted on 09/23/2002 4:26:24 PM PDT by comwatch

We're just six days and counting to the Sawgrass Rebellion Convoy merging from all points north, south and west before they head east and rally in Sacramento. Events of the last few days suggest a little humor may be in order. But read between the lines and ask... how have we lost so much ground, and why have we allowed government to trash our Constitution and the Bill of Rights therein. What meaning should be attributed to: "No person shall be...deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation." ---Article 5, The Bill of Rights

_ark.gif (147797 bytes) It is the year 2002 and Noah lives in Sacramento, California.
The Lord speaks to Noah and says: "In one year I am going to make it rain and cover the whole earth with water until all is destroyed. But I want you to save the righteous people and two of every kind of living thing on the earth. Therefore, I am commanding you to build an Ark."

In a flash of lightning, God delivered the specifications for an Ark. Fearful and trembling, Noah took the plans and agreed to build the Ark.

noah.gif (38052 bytes)

"Remember," said the Lord, "You must complete the Ark and bring everything aboard in one year."

Exactly one year later, a fierce storm cloud covered the earth and all the seas of the earth went into a tumult. The Lord saw Noah sitting in his front yard weeping.

"Noah." He shouted, "Where is the Ark?"

"Lord please forgive me!" cried Noah. "I did my best, but there were big problems. First, I had to get a permit for construction and your plans did not comply with the codes.

I had to hire an engineering firm and redraw the plans. Then I got into a fight with OSHA over whether or not the Ark needed a fire sprinkler system and floatation devices.

Then my neighbor objected, claiming I was violating zoning ordinances by building the Ark in my front yard, so I had to get a variance from the city planning commission. The City Council tried to revoke the variance when the neighbor told them I listen to Armstrong and Getty on AM Talk Radio while working the shop.

The mayor called me a conservative middle aged white boy out to make a buck without paying under the table. I was saved only by converting part of the Ark to Section 8 low income rental accommodations. But they don't come two by two... more like 12 by 12.

I had problems getting enough wood for the Ark, because there was a ban on cutting trees to protect the Spotted Owl. I finally convinced the U.S. Forest Service that I needed the wood to save the owls.

However, the Fish and Wildlife Service won't let me catch any owls. So, no owls. The carpenters formed a union and went out on strike. I had to negotiate a settlement with the National Labor Union. Now I have 16 carpenters on the Ark, but still no owls.

When I started rounding up the other animals, I got sued by an animal rights group. They objected to me only taking two of each kind aboard. Just when I got the suit dismissed, the EPA notified me that I could not complete the Ark without filing an environmental impact statement on your proposed flood. They didn't take very kindly to the idea that they had no jurisdiction over the conduct of the Creator of the universe.

Then the Army Corps of Engineers demanded a map of the proposed new flood plain. I sent them a globe.

Right now, I am trying to resolve a complaint filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that I am practicing discrimination by not taking godless, unbelieving people aboard!

The IRS has seized all my assets, claiming that I'm building the Ark in preparation to flee the country to avoid paying taxes. I just got a notice from the state that I owe some kind of user tax and failed to register the Ark as a recreational water craft."

Finally the ACLU got the courts to issue an injunction against further construction of the Ark, saying that since God is flooding the earth, it is a religious event, therefore unconstitutional.

I really don't think I can finish the Ark for another 5 or 6 years!" Noah wailed. The sky began to clear, the sun began to shine and the seas began to calm. A rainbow arched across the sky. Noah looked up hopefully.

You mean you are not going to destroy the earth,

Lord?" "No," said the Lord sadly. "The government already has."

AMEN!

In California, rallies are planned in Tracy and in Sacramento. On September 29th, a rally will be held in Tracy. The rally will gather at the Park and Ride adjacent to the West Valley Mall and Interstate Highway 205. The rally will start at roughly 2 p.m., when the convoy is scheduled to arrive from the Klammath Basin in Oregon, Congressman Richard Pombo is scheduled to address the rally at 3 p.m. Other speakers include Leo Bergeron, CEO of the California State Grange, Michael Shaw of Freedom 21, a representative of the Mountain Coalition, and others The event is being sponsored by the Homestead Land and Water Alliance of Tracy.

An auction of donated goods will be held with the proceeds donated to the Sawgrass Rebellion, the umbrella organization founded in South Florida to protect citizens property rights through legislation, litigation and public education. The local FFA chapter has been invited to provide food as a fundraiser for their Chapter.

The following day, September 30, the California State Grange has obtained a permit to hold a rally on the steps of the Capitol Building. Assemblyman Mike Briggs (Dist. 29) and Senator Thomas "Rico" Oller (Dist. 1) have facilitated in setting up the rally. Speakers include Legislators, and representatives from the California State Grange, Pacific Legal Foundation, California Farm Bureau, and People for the U.S.A. Also scheduled is Holly Swanson, the author of "Set Up and Sold Out!" We have asked that Governor Davis (or a representative from his office) be on hand to accept a symbolic bucket and shovel.

Activities are scheduled to begin on the South Steps of the Capitol building at 11:30am, and conclude about 3:00pm. Again, there will be an auction held as a fundraiser for the Sawgrass Rebellion Organization.

Sorry, but I couldn't find a cross street associated with the mall by which to target a map. If you know where it is, would you please post the URL to a MapQuest map so that I can download and print it.

Thanks.

Take the Grantline turnoff from I-205 and make a left on Grantline. The next signal is Naglee--go right on Naglee and next signal is Home Depot road to left and entrance to Park and Ride to the right.

Ouch, that hurts. Government by the people, of the people and for the people.
