But the battle has been lost.

I would tend to agree were it not that the Holy Spirit is alive and well and very much at work. I trust the Holy Spirit to carry the Church through whatever. Under the Holy Spirit's guidance the Church has survived bad popes, bad bishops, bad priests, heresy, schism and apostasy. There is nothing new in all of this, and no cause for despair. My job is to support the good work with my prayers and my own quest for holiness, however inadequate. Trust God to know His job, and do it regardless of human obstructionism, perversion, blindness and just plain sin.

Yes, I agree. We need to remember, even when things look the most discouraging, that God the Father is still on His throne, and the Power of His Holy Spirit is still with the Church. The old saying, "There are no new sins, but there are lots of new SINNERS" really is true. God is not shocked by sinful men, even though I am sure He is grieved by our stubborness and persistence in evil. But remember the Four Marks of the Church. She is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. To me, this means she is perfect and cannot teach error. But she is also made up of sinners. We, as true and faithful believers, are called to support her in prayer every day. We pray our intention at our daily rosary thus:" At our home, we pray for the restoration of Holy Mother Church and her liturgy; and for the purification of the priesthood."
