Mexican officials ponder move after FBI agents cross border (barf alert)
El Paso Times ^ | 09-19-02 | Associated Press

JUAREZ -- Mexican officials said Wednesday that they were looking into taking action against FBI agents who crossed the border without federal permission -- a serious move in a nation touchy about interference from its northern neighbor.

FBI officials were investigating the beating of two of their agents last week by a dozen Mexican railroad bandits. The agents were hospitalized with head injuries after being hit repeatedly by sticks, rocks and pipes.

FBI spokesman Al Cruz said U.S. investigators were accompanied in Mexico by Juárez police.

"All we did was go right over the fence there because we saw some pipes. We gathered them and came back," Cruz said.

But authorities at Mexico's federal attorney general's office said they are looking into the matter to see whether to take action.

The chief federal agent in Juárez, Lorenzo Aquino, met with U.S. officials at the Mexican consulate in El Paso on Wednesday.

Aquino told a Juárez newspaper that the move was a "violation of the constitution and we're going to intervene."

Aquino could not be reached directly for comment.

Jose Guadalupe Leon of the National Human Rights Network said that "it makes you sad that national sovereignty is being lost."

FBI agents arrested at least 16 people on the U.S. side after the attack and charged them with train robbery and assault.

The beaten agents were investigating thefts of interstate shipments from the railroads, which have cost the railroads more than $1 million a year, Cruz said.

Mexico worries about it's sovreignty while demanding the "whole enchilada"??? They insist on complete access to the US ---jobs, welfare, political campaigning by their corrupt politicians, in-state tuition for their law-breaking citizens but they stab us in the back like this?

The Mexicans are like the Arabs, they are losers, yes losers and don't have a clue on how to improve their country other than trying to ride on the backs of Americans who work for a living.

If they don't like our agents wandering over the border, maybe they'll join us in building a fence from Brownsville to San Diego. Good fences make good neighbors.

They're "touchy" about the FBI agents investigating the beating of the other FBI agents? With thousands upon thousands of illegal immigrants from Mexico coming into our country and living off of the welfare system and other "entitlements." With hundreds dying of thirst in our deserts and leaving the clean-up for us and then blaming us for their deaths because we don't provide water for their illegal journey. Are those the same people complaining? I didn't think so, Vincente Fox would never allow that.

They're touchy because you can bet your life these corrupt Mexican officials have been benefitting royally from bribes and in other ways from the train robberies. There's no way those millions of dollars aren't made without them getting their cut.

That's why they can demand we provide every service imaginable for their citizens too ---it puts money in their pockets.

Mexicans are not losers, unless being screwed by one's own government makes you a loser.  The government continues to practice policies that see the average Mexican cut loose to fend for themselves, capital going to the privileged few.  Corruption is the motivating factor in Mexico.

Most Mexicans don't come north.  Most Mexicans are good people.  Large numbers of those who break our laws to come here work hard and become successful middle class individuals in time, something they couldn't do in Mexico.

I don't agree with our nation being overrun by any nation.  Hence my complete disagreement with illegal aliens being allowed to come here, or stay here.  But Mexicans are not losers.  Most of them are good people.

BTW, every person who lives on the land that starts in northern Canada and continues south to the tip of Peru, is an American.  If you wish to specificly identify citizens of the United States, do so.  By using the term "American" you support the idea that there are no borders in the hemisphere.

I sent this to O'Reilly. Hopefully he'll give it some well deserved air time. Maybe a few other FReeper's should do the same. There's strength in numbers.

OH NO ! The Mexicans are mad at us, how ever will I sleep tonight with the knowledge that we offended the mighty Mexican nation hanging over my head.

We better apologize quickly or they might decide to unleash the indomidable Mexican military on us. The mighty Mexican airforce will reduce are cities to rubble. The stalwart Mexican navy will blockade our ports. I can't even bear to talk about the fearsome Mexican Special Forces.

Maybe if they have mercy on us they will only recall their ambassador and place a travel ban on us. We may go bankrupt from the loss of all the tourism dollars from the rich Mexicans that come across the border to spend their ammassed wealth.

Whoa is me! Maybe Kofi Annan and the UN will be able to save us from our doom!

'Most of them are good people' - Assuming all they did was come across the border illegally, you could say they really did just want a better life. That is not all they do. They depend on the taxpayers of this nation for medical care, food, sometimes housing, education, etc., They do not pay taxes. They do not carry any kind of insurance, making other citizens take care of their personal responsibilities. Don't put all the blame for high insurance costs in Texas on the governor, be it GW or Perry. Someone has to pay for all the accidents caused by these people and it is the law-abiding citizen.

There was a recent article stating in Fort Worth, Texas, they are going to spend $______ thousand dollars to 'educate' illegals on how to 'handle' their trash. I can tell you if you drive through their neighborhood, you will find piles, huge piles of it on the street and it has been there for months, through much weather. What is wrong with giving them tickets or whatever they would do if we tried that.

I have personally seen these newest arrivals steal and teach their children to steal.

MOST of them are good people, I don't know. But if they have taken one dime of welfare, dodged one dime of taxes, refused to obey any law, refused to carry insurance to protect the other person - they are not good people!!!! They are stealing (with the backup of the power of our government)from citizens, worse yet, the children of this country. Now are MOST of them good people - I doubt it.

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'good' is???

It's complex ---they do want a better life but it costs a lot to live here and educate children here ---most illegals are lucky to have a 3rd grade education in Mexico ---which isn't much. They don't speak English and have no job skills. The only way to get ahead when that's all you have is to manage to get on as many government programs as you can. Fox demands we take them but he doesn't demand the Mexican taxpayers educate them properly for life in this country.

There's been a lot of murders of innocent Mexican citizens, mostly young women and girls that many many Mexicans believe are being done by someone either in the government or who is closely connected with it. The people have demanded FBI investigations into these murders because it's very obvious their officials have no intention in solving these murders ---might look bad for their own. Fox very reluctantly agreed the FBI might be brought in, for some reason Fox himself doesn't want these murders solved, maybe bribe money cut off or some powerful people pressure him. This is probably just a way to backtrack on having the FBI look into the horrible murders ---it's possible they could find the ones doing them.

You and another poster have completely missed my point. You are talking about illegal aliens, which we both want back on the Mexican side of the border. But when the term "Mexican" is used it doesn't only apply to illegals. It applies to all Mexican citizens, many of which are hard working decent people. We shouldn't use blanket statements about the Mexican people unless they are supportable. Not all Mexicans are not dependent on the US and it's bounty.

They should take the pipes and cram them up Aquino's a$$ to see what he thinks of that.

No, it is not complex - it does cost a lot to live here and educate children here - just ask those of us who are paying for our own and theirs also. So let them stay home. WE can help them much cheaper in their own country and not destroy ours. It is very simple. The so-called complexity comes in when anyone supposes that it is our responsibility to take them in and care for them. Just not so. What will happen when the middle class working man looses everything because he can't pay his income tax and keep his home, or can't pay the skyrocketing property taxes necessary to educate them, or when he can't maintain insurance because they just do not and he has to pay for their irresponsibilty.

Yes, Fox demands we take them and President Bush wants them. Now as far as educating them for life in this country - EDUCATE THEM FOR LIFE IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY. Many of these people do have an education, but formal education or not, they are not stupid people - they have managed to take the jobs of American workers, place other American workers in servitude to them, manage to put a segment of the population on a guilt trip, and have the American government in their hip pockets - helpless - it doesn't look that way to me.

Speaking as a grandparent, there is no justification for taking money from my son, his sick wife and their three children to give to people who are not willing to make the hard decisions it takes to clean up a country. (Of course that is the situation we are in here today or there would be no illegal immigration problem.)

Someone actually posted to me that we could not deport the illegals as they would just build up a hatred for us. I suppose we are supposed to work, pay for them to live better than we do, see them flagrantly break our laws, not just the immigration laws, and not have a hatred. I don't hate anyone, but I am very unhappy with them and our government. Actually, I have developed the 'lifeboat' philosophy. This lifeboat is full and if we continue to take on more, it will capsize and as far as I am concerned - call me mean-spirited, my children and my grandchildren, other citizens of this country and this country comes first. It is time to make hard choices.

"Mexico has always shared the same continent as the US and Canada, why is it still a third world country?" This country didn't happen just because God smiled on us, or just because we happen to be located north of the Rio Grande - it happened because of hard work of honest and honorable people - despite the government. WE are in grave danger of losing this country bought by the blood, sweat and tears of generations - just because some greedy politicians want to buy votes and because greedy corporations want a bigger profit. Mexico is a country with many natural resources, let them develop it - not destroy ours -
