McCartney, Starr, Clapton & Others Set For George Harrison Tribute Concert

(9/19/02, 7 a.m. ET) -- Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Eric Clapton are among those participating in a concert in London to commemorate the first anniversary of George Harrison's death.

The show, set for November 29 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, has Clapton supervising the entertainment content of the tribute. Other names on the bill include Traveling Wilburys alumni Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne; former Squeeze pianist Jools Holland; drummer Jim Keltner; conductor and orchestrator Michael Kamen; British singer-guitarist Joe Brown; Indian sitar legend Ravi Shankar; and Monty Python members Michael Palin and Eric Idle.

Peter Frampton, another old friend of Harrison's, told LAUNCH that he hopes to take part in the show as well. "There's a concert in England, and I'd love to be a part of that, but I'm sure it's all set...but we're calling up about that one."

Bob Dylan is also rumored to be a part of the show, but LAUNCH was unable to confirm his participation by press time.

Proceeds from the event will go towards cancer research, although the name of the specific charity(s) is unknown.

It will be an easy gig for Holland, as his fall itinerary takes him to the Royal Albert Hall on November 28 and 30.

One of Harrison's last recordings was the song "Horse To The Water," which was featured on Holland's latest album, Jools Holland's Big Band Rhythm & Blues, while Lynne co-produced the upcoming posthumous Harrison album, Brainwashed, due November 19.

More details of the show are expected to be announced soon.

I just heard a report yesterday that Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson are teaming up to release new versions of "Let It Be" b/w "God only Knows" for a charity. Any connection?

Well thank God we will get some decent music! The reason the recording industry is in a shambles is the fact that with a few rare exceptions, there has not been one decent musician (as a total package) for 20 years. Even Hollywood has to dig up old work-horse musicians to lay a sountrack in movies made today! My 14 year old daughter was assigned to provide a "Cristian religious song" For her weekly mass at high school. She picked George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" A truely moving, inspiring, religiously tolerant piece of music. Wow! She got her blessed behind kicked from the Virgin Mother, to the alter and back. She also found the orchestral version of Kashmire, by Led Zeplin. After falling in absolute love with it, she is using it for a skit she has to do in crisis management. It should be good. Another one of her finds she is in love with out of our vinyl's, is The Moody Blues with the London Philharmonic(?)

Give a wise, mature kid access to your old vinyl's and turntable and they will never come back. Good art sells itself.

Brian Wilson has been doing some reasonbly good stuff lately. He lives in suburban Chicago. He's still a little wacked out, but whatever he does will be interesting...

I wonder if Joycelyn Elders will be there, since she loves Eric Clapner so much.

I'm sorry for mentioning, what Rush called "a glittering jewel of colossal ignorance", but every time I hear the name Eric Clapton, I cannot help but think of her talking about "Eric Clapner."

Unfortunately for your daughter , MSL is hindu. (krishna, krishna ?)

Plenty of good Christian music available.

Yep, Brian's been on a roll lately...nothing to match his first solo lp from 1988, but good stuff nonetheless. His live cd with the Wondermints backing him up is primo!Gotta go dig out my copy of Friends now...

It's also a rip-off of "He's So Fine."

We knew that MSL references all of at least the top ten God's. Dahli Lamma, Vishnu Vishu, Krishna, Krishna, and so on....The point she was trying to make was that in a bunch of her other classes they are indoctrinated with all this diversity and acceptance of others crap, and when they have to eat what they dish out it becomes wrong? I really don't care since she is so highly respected in school due to her grades, beliefs, and tennacity, that such incidents are just entertainment. Besides, if I have her flexing her adolescent attitude in school, it's pretty much running on empty by the time she gets home.(domestic peace)

Now if you had pointed out that the song was picked intentionally to tick off the politically correct instructors it would have been easier on me. (sometimes I miss things that I should get. After all you are a freeper, she's got to have some sense in her.)
