Yes, I have heard of this and need to educate myself on this subject. I'm new to Florida and have a lot to learn. I saw a little about this on the news one time and was horrified with what I was hearing. Thank you for the link.

I have heard about it and am concerned about private property issues, however, something does have to be done to restore the Aquifer, the Everglades and Lake Okechobee. I think cane farmers should be given the option of reimbursment for their land, or farming without using phosphates. Eco-nuts pay huge prices for organically grown produce, and while I personally think it rates right up there with bottled water or pet rocks, in an area like the Everglades it makes sense.

One of the saddest things I saw last summer was the Shenandoah National Park, where the rightful owners were displaced by the government (thanks FDR) and then all of the beautiful chestnut trees died.

We are just coming off a seven year drought that has created huge areas of sink-holes, because the pourous limestone crumbles when there is no water flowing underneath it. North Florida is a pretty solid conservative base, but JEB alienated alot of people by entering into discussions with a cement company that wanteed to divert water away from the pristine (not a word I use often) Itchetucknee River. (you can see pictures at flausa.com or myflorida.com) He eventually backed off.

St. Joe paper company is the largest private owner of land in Florida, aka Arvida. If they have huge tracts of undeveloped Florida land that they are willing to sell to the government, rather than paving it over and selling it to New Yorkers who can't drive, can't vote and can't figure out that people just don't want to see geriatrics wearing weenie wraps- I am all for it If you think water politics is bad in California- you ain't seen nothing yet.
