I just recently bought a used car, and the gentleman who sold me the vehicle rather kindly tuned the radio to the local talk radio station. This afternoon on the way to class, I was listening to the Jay Severin Show when he received a call from a... I can't say gentleman, because it would be a profound insult to true gentleman... who point blank asked if Mr. Severin was Jewish. The host quite rightly retorted that it didn't matter either way, and further pointed out the polls recently published in the mainstream media that show that 2/3 of Americans polled support military action against Iraq.
It seems the new McCarthyites reside on the left. Of course, the question posed to Mr. Severin this afternoon is only one manifestation of the new religious McCarthyism. This brand of ad hominem attack has also taken firm root in the Senate Judiciary committee, where the slightest hint of a pro-life inclination immediately disqualifies you, regardless of your educational and professional credentials.
Given this, I find it even more difficult to take anything liberals say seriously. They've moaned and groaned over the years about our supposed "sexual McCarthyism" and our supposed "intolerance to dissent." Hypocrisy! They are the worst offenders.
Which is why, at the tender age of 18, I registered as a Republican. I could never join their party. I was not overly fond of the Republicans in general, but at least I knew where they were coming from. I could never trust the democrats because what they say and what they do are always two different things. I'd rather vote for a known scoundrel than a liar/hypocrite any day of the week (preferably on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November)-- at least I'd know what I was voting for.
