Iraq says it will allow U.N. weapons inspectors to immediately return to the country without conditions, but a senior U.S. official discounted the announcement, saying "we do not take what Saddam says at face value."

Word that Iraq would allow inspections to resume came Monday in a letter delivered to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri delivered the letter in a meeting with Annan and the secretary-general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa.

Iraq refuses any new UN inspection team
Iraq, Politics, 9/12/2001

The Iraqi daily Babel issued on Tuesday stressed Iraq's rejection to any new UN inspection mission and accused the UN inspectors by carrying out spying missions, criticizing the UN chief inspectors on dismantling weapons in Iraq Hans Blex.

The paper noted that Iraq has realized the dimensions of the anti- Iraqi people American- israeli schemes, stressing that Iraq proceeds in building its own future from a solid ground based on the great potentials of the Iraqis to building.

However, the comment passed by the Iraqi paper came as an answer to Blex's announcement last Wednesday that the UN committee in charge of investigation and inspection UNMOFIK has reached a good level of preparations enabling it to perform assigned tasks independently without provocation.

Maybe in another 4 days these ragheaded pieces of pig crap will change their minds again.

Arabs are without a doubt the most treacherous group on the planet, just ask one.

Too bad for Saddam, the left, and the Democrats that a real American is in the White House.

>>Daschle, the clintons, and kofi annan are all working to bring down this great President.<<....It will take more than that motley crew. What is important here that he doesn't do it to himself.

Basically, Bush is demanding what he knows Saddam will not agree to. He knew Saddam would play this "weapons inspector" game, and appease the dupes in the UN, the media, and the Democrat Party, so he left it out of the speech. It was brilliant. But if Saddam says OK to weapons inspectors, it is another rope that Saddam can trip over, as we know that as soon as they get close to anything, they'll be expelled from the country.

"A lot has happened in this building since Thursday," Annan said in announcing the news.

Understatement - did that welt on your cheek from Bush's slap heal yet?

Strengthen's the US's position...they threw out a bone to get leverage...Bush needs to refer back to his 9/25/01 speech...the conditions are not open for discussion or negotiation...

I guess that dip sh!t inspector that defected is probably doing a good job of teaching Iraq how to hide their weapons more effectively from the UN inspection teams.

Don't worry - he will.

This has the ring of Neville Chamberlain in 1938, shrilly declaring "Peace in our Time." A year later, WW2 was in full swing. Tyrants will never make peace and only use "treaties" for short-term gain so that their long-term plans can be realized.

The whole concept of "weapons inspections" is a sham. Where do you start? Iraq is about twice the size of Oregon. While the inspectors are looking in one place, the weapons are being moved someplace else. It's a useless shell game that is a waste of time.

Fine. But does Saddam understand that from now on inspections will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps, and that any and all interference will be met by overwhelming force?

This is contemptible; Saddam, Kofi, and the rest of the international socialist swine in the UN still take Dubya for a fool. It's obvious. I hope they're ready for a rude Texas awakening; namely, a stampede of extra-smart missiles coming in from every direction on Iraq.

Thank you for your post #37.

I watched his UN speech twice and couldn't remember President Bush saying that the return of inspectors would prevent military action.

Our president is in need of extra ordinary help to accomplish what needs to be done to keep us alive; - and I pray our "angel in the whirlwind" is working overtime.

President Bush will need this help to swim against the tidal wave of democrat and media spin that is sure to follow Kofi's public capitulation.

May God bless our president.

The Iraqi strategy is to invite inspectors in. Once in, Saddam will renege. They will be seized and used as HUMAN HOSTAGES to forestall any attack and put pressure on the Europeans and others to oppose a "dangerous" US move which may harm the hostages.

Saddam used HUMAN SHIELDS from the international community before, 12 years ago. We remember little Stuart Lockwood being patted on the head by Saddam. Anyone think he is any different a person?
