Hey, Saddam! What about all the other conditions GW laid down to you? Prisoner return, for instance, and quite a few other minor items.
One slice of cheese at a time from you moose limbs isn't gonna satisfy our Prez, you rat.

Former United Nations weapons inspector Scott Ritter will be featured in an "instant" bookI wonder if his '98 testimony to congress will be reprinted in his instybook?
To: HAL9000
My guess? They withdraw their 'offer' to allow weapons inspectors back in under the conditions they outlined. It will be replaced by a statement that they will not allow weapons inspectors, period.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Iraq is preparing an announcement on U.S. and U.N. demands that it let back U.N. arms inspectors, a senior Arab official said on Monday.
"A text is being prepared for announcement in Baghdad at any time," said the Arab official, who asked not to be named. "But we don't know the tenor of the text," he added
. French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin said there were rumors Iraq would agree to let the inspectors return.
Arab ministers attributed the report to Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri, who is attending the annual session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, the official said.

Who writes this stuff? Their grammar is horrible. Babelfish listed in the header, is an online computer program capable of translating websites in several foreign languages into English equivalents (sort of). Or from English into other languages.
The results are often comical, but given that it's a completely automated translation, it's actually surprisingly good. It can even translate to/from Chinese and Japanese, which is *not* easy.
The original article was apparently in some other language, and someone used Babelfish to render it into English so that its content could be read and appreciated here.
It's a very handy service. Here is my first paragraph in French, even though I don't *know* French:
Babelfish énuméré dans l'en-tête, est un programme machine en ligne capable de traduire des websites dans plusieurs langues étrangères dans les équivalents anglais (sorte de). Ou de l'anglais dans d'autres langues.

REMEMBER THIS? {Break...} Iraq, U.N. Agree on Arms Inspector Visits (with conditions)

(New York, 1-Aug SFTRNN) United Nations Sec. General Koffi Annan announced this evening that Iraqi foreign minister Tariq Azziz has accepted revised proposals for the return of U.N. weapon inspection teams to verify Iraqi claims that the country no longer has weapons of mass destruction and has no ongoing ability to research or manufacture them. Responding to Iraqi concerns over the composition of the team and possible inspection activity that might unfairly undermine the countries sovereignity and security rights, Annan had modified original proposals a number of times until final agreement was reached today. Among the key requirements Iraq demanded for return of the inspectors was: the immediate ending of restriction of sales of Iraqi petroleum; that no citizens of the United States or Great Britain be part of any team, that forty-eight hour notices be given before any inspection, and that in order to safeguard legitimate national interests, inspections will not be permitted at government sponsored healthcare, environmental or agricultural institutions or other sites deemed as sensitive to local religious populations, including islamic educational centers for children. Iraqi did agree, however, to open presidential palaces to full review for which Annan had strongly urged. "We feel this breakthrough will be the beginning of a new era of peace for the Iraqi people and will soon end the tensions felt by us all", Annan said. The inspections will begin as soon as the new teams can be fully staffed and trained with Azziz estimating that the entire matter could be concluded quickly so that the remaining sanctions could be lifted by fall of this year.
