Chicago Tribune columnist Bob Greene resigned after acknowledging he engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a teen-age girl, the newspaper said Sunday.
In a note on the paper's front page, editor Ann Marie Lipinski said Greene, 55, acknowledged the sexual conduct with a girl in her late teens whom he met in connection with his column.

The details of this are very vague. Late teens could be 18 or 19. This also apparently happened some time ago. In addition, it didn't say that this girl was an employee -- the article just said that she had met Greene through the column. I imagine that most people Bob Greene, or any columnist for that matter, meet in their lives are due to their column.
I also remember reading that Greene was friends with Bush 41, and that he had written several columns in his defense. Is this payback? I don't know. It just seems a bit odd that, unless significant details are being left out here, that a columnist would be forced out for something in his private life.

It's even more steeply downhill for guys from 19 or so. Women, OTOH, start their downhill journey somewhat latter. All things being equal of course, which they rarely are.Sorry to differ with you, but at age 52 I may not be the man I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!

And that is why France is France and the U.S. is the U.S. Not a thoughtful reply. Black and white, good and bad, right and wrong; is what conservatism is about. And moral relativism and overall cultural moral greyness is what liberalism, aka Clinton, is about.
Which national sexual ethic makes more sense, and why?

It seems like a tragic mistake, but we all make choices in our lives that have consequences both good and bad. Hope he lands on his feet somewhere for another chance.

As for women, I suppose one can be made to feel younger, and/or look younger for that matter under the right form of motivation...Re-write your comment, replacing the word "women" with "men", and it's also true...
...but young girls also have that one trait that guys cant resist; their relative stupidity.
I think I win this one because I can always resist "stupidity" (relative or otherwise) no matter how cute the "boy" is! (and BTW, are you sure "guys" can't resist "relative stupidity"?!)
Other than that, I'm a fan of "the Peter Pan principle" myself...Freegards!

Bing married Kathryn Grant in 1957 not Cathy Crosby who was about 8 at the time. Kathryn was the same age as Gary Crosby, Bing's oldest son.

Didn't the Tribune support Clinton during impeachment? << <<
The Tribune called on Clinton to resign during the Monicagate scandal. Twice.

Maybe I did not understand your post. What I was referring to was "If this happened at a French newspaper, the couple would be -- with their consent -- publicly feted at parties thrown by the newspaper." It sounded to me like you thought being publicly feted (a positive thing) was good. I do not think it is. I agree that "moral relativism and overall cultural moral greyness is what liberalism, aka Clinton, is about."

Perhaps its already been mentioned here, but
Rush Limbaugh just mentioned Greene's firing, and asked if The Chicago Tribune wanted Clinton removed from office.
The Answer to the question is the Tribune's editorial board ran several editorials saying that Clinton should not be removed from office.

The Tribune called on Clinton to resign during the Monicagate scandal. Twice. They did that's true, but they also said, during impeachment, that Clinton SHOULD NOT BE removed from office.
They also ran an editorial I vividly remember in which they said Linda Tripp was the biggest villain in the whole thing.
They are truly a bunch of schizos over there. I dropped my subscription after the Tripp editorial.
