Yeah, I know, I know...
I was just making a joke....
lefty loosey, righty tighty
Get it?
Yup,that's the way they have always played the game, and it's one of the ways they stay in power. I just don't see any real reason for us to play the game with them, when all it does is help them and hurt us. Like I said, let the Arab nations take out their own trash.
Our problem is what if they don't take care of Saddam and themselves?
Selfish self-interest is probably THE most motivating factor known to mankind, other than the fear of death. When you combine the two,it seems VERY unlikely they would let him get away with building and deploying nukes. If push came to shove and we had no choice,we could always take them out then.
A more incompetant set of bungling idiots would be hard to find, outside of Zimbabwe.
I have to agree with that, too.
I'm just tossing the debate ball around, because the last thing I want to see is Americans stuck as perminant peacekeepers in 7th century countries.
Me too,but no matter what we want,it looks like this is what IS going to happen. Not only will our troops be babysitters, but they will also be convenient targets for attack by the followers of the Muslim fundies, who will use them to distract their followers from their own shortcomings.

I have personally fought for freedom for others, and stand prepared at any time for fight for my own.
The nations you mentioned helped us mostly with goods shipped to us. They didn't send troops in any number, and they were only helping us to hurt England. We don't owe them squat.
I can top that. There are people around here who know I flat refused to vote for Giddy Dolt in the primary, and they were outraged about it. They couldn't vote for her theirselves in the primary because they are registered Dims! The excuse they give is "my granddaddy would spin in his grave if I were to ever register as a Republican." And THESE people are mad at ME for not voting for her!
Do you have any idea how childish that sounds? LOL
And we just might do that. You put the troops, ships, and planes in the same places doing the very same things to prepare for attacks on either Iran or Iraq, due to their geographical locations and global logistics.
Plus, Iran is building a nuclear reactor and testing long range missiles. In contrast, Iraq has Word War 2 era scud V-2 missiles that have less than a 400 mile range (and Iraq doesn't have a nuclear reactor).
Frankly, we should blast Iran off this planet before taking out Iraq, especially since all we really need in Iraq is one bullet from one sniper, and poof, we've got ourselves a regime change there. Hussein is secular, after all, so once he is gone there will be no followup support.
On the other hand in Iran, their religious regime would survive the assasination of any single leader, thus making it a much better candidate for a full scale invasion.
That's certainly true, but do you remember that Western reporters during the Gulf War said (only half joking) that the favorite song in Saudi Arabia was "Onward Christian Soldiers"? They would dearly love for us to clean up their mess, and then shut up so they could get back to their nonsense. I don't like our people getting sucked into that mess anymore than you do.
When you combine the two,it seems VERY unlikely they would let him get away with building and deploying nukes.
Saddam invaded Kuwait and was aiming for the Saudis and he's still around, 11 years later. You would think that with all the hatred Saddam generated during the occupation of Kuwait, they might gotten mad enough then.
If push came to shove and we had no choice,we could always take them out then.
The question is, how hard can Saddam shove? How much will WE lose if we let him run loose? He's been planning shell games with the U.N. inspector teams for years. If we could count on the 'neighborhood' to take he and his regime out it would be one thing, but they haven't and they know what he and his family are.
Oh goody! Do you know what a badge of honor it is to have you attempt a flame on someone? You are well known as one of the biggest dipwads around here and now I've finally attracked your dimwitted attention. Thank you, thank you.
BTW, you told JR you were going to leave once when he didn't back you up. Why did you return?
Here...I found it!
"Unlike you, he's been there, done that, and bought a whole department store of T-shirts."
"Sugar, you don't appear capable of discussion."
"Your intelligence is only exceeded by your eloquence."
So let me understand...I am both ignorant yet eloquent?
Okay.
"And you don't even know how to post links."
I lacked the motivation to make your e-trek easier."

Well, maybe I didnt find honest discussion. ~grin~
"We can't educate those that don't want it."
If you'd only apply that mantra to FR.
Just to irritate you.
Gosh a person could take that personally.
A guy walks into a bar, orders a beer --asks the guy next to him "Wanna hear my 'aggie' joke ?"
The guy next to him replies, "Before you tell that joke you should know something. I'm 6' tall, 200 lbs. and I'm an aggie.
And the fellow sitting next to me is my daddy 6'2", 225 lbs. and also an aggie.
The dude at the end of the bar is my uncle 6'5", 250 lbs. and also a graduate of Texas A&M .
Are you sure you still want to tell that aggie joke ?"
The first guy responds, "H*ll no, not if I gotta explain it three times."
By the way, do you still believe that the religious nutcases are incharge in Iraq. That sort of tips off your geo-political clumsiness.
BTW, looseis how your clothes fit after you lose weight.
