Major news organizations are now discussing the implications for students at colleges and universities of their professors' political leanings. Such political leanings indicate, according to the Wall Street Journal, that an overwhelming number of faculty members, as evidenced in the newly released study by the American Enterprise Institute magazine, show a uniformity of political allegiance toward being left-leaning or liberal, because of the candidates they tend to support.

It is false science to imply that a teacher's voting patterns establish a basis for accusing them of teaching biases.

Right! No really I believe him...but then I am dumber than a post

"My students learn all points of view, including the moderate views conveniently left out of the American Enterprise Institute study, on the issues discussed in class. Equally important is that all points of view are tolerated in my classroom, since college is to be a learning experience."

An inclusive liberal college professor? What is he, the exception that proves the rule?

Notice how he doesn't deny that the vast majority of college professors *are* leftists?

Its just silly to argue that the personal political biases of professors don't influence what they teach. That's about as self-evident as it gets.

Next he will be claiming that the polticial affiliation of legislators doesn't influence how they vote.

Equally important is that all points of view are tolerated in my classroom,

Except, of course, for those nasty *conservative* views. That's just "hate speech," unworthy of any first amendment protection.

As a matter of fact, there are ample examples of recent elections where Republicans have gone out of their way to make unsubstantiated negative allegations against union members and union leaders for supporting Democratic candidates. ....What a nice, convenient study to put forth as a diversion from the real news today of corporate malfeasance, and special interest influence-peddling in Washington, D.C....It is false science to imply that a teacher's voting patterns establish a basis for accusing them of teaching biases.

Let's see...he says the "real news" today is not the war on terrorism but rather "corporate malfeasance and special interest influence peddling." He criticizes Republicans for "unsubstantiated negative allegations against union members."

Yet, he expects us to believe that these apparently strongly held beliefs don't influence what subjects he chooses to teach in the classroom? Yeah, sure.

For instance, in my college courses, I have guest speakers from the Republican, Democratic, Green, Reform and other parties.

What that usually means to college professors/the media, etc.:

Party Affiliation of speakers:

Democrat 82%
Green Party 10.5%
Reform 5.2%
Other 2.2%
Republican 0.1%

Therefore the author can "truthfully" state that, statistically and scientifically speaking, Republicans are heard on campus. They are heard as they exclaim "ouch" when they land on their butt after being forcibly evicted from the college's "zone of tolerance" by the Diversity Stormtroopers.

This boob thinks the story was put forth as a diversion from "the real news of today, which is corporate malfeasance and special interest influence peddling in Washington." Now these are left-liberal and democrat formulations of what they imagine to be issues. Note that he doesn't even mention the war on terror. He is oblivious to his own bias. He has no basis for the assertion that it was the intent of the editors of the American Enterprise to put the story forth for purposes of "diversion." In fact, I personally know them, and have read the whole issue, which is dedicated to the subject of education. This is typical of liberals. Uninformed and ignorant assertions, obliviousness to one's own biases and limitations, and above all, an intense (if completely unfounded) sense of self righteous indignation. (Indignation was was once described by Marshall MacLuhan as a technique for endowing morons with dignity.)
