So did World One ace Eddie Rickenbacker's family when he was a kid.

One of my favorite stories was how my Grandmother's father came home one day after working on building the levies along the Mississippi. He had been catching a lot of crap for his German, and when they sat down to eat he slammed his hand down on the table and said: "We are all Americans now, and we will all speak English from now on!"

This of course killed all conversation at the table for a while but they weren't a talkative lot anyways. We're all from that area; AK, TN and so on. The German language died in our family that day but now our clan uses at least three or four new ones since then. The common thing was they all wanted to be AMERICANs. Melting pot bump...
