The drama can only escalate as trustee's foes turn in petitions for a vote on his ouster.

It seems like little else matters here these days. The upcoming City Council election with 10 candidates? Yawn. The governor's race? Boorrrriinng. But the campaign to remove school board member Nativo Lopez, now that's got the town talking.

The recall efforts are the latest in a series of controversies surrounding Lopez, who is also the leader of the immigrant-rights group Hermandad Mexicana Nacional. The State Department of Education has sued Hermandad for millions of dollars in grants that the department says can't be accounted for. Nicole Winger, department spokeswoman, said the suit is pending. Lopez has denied any wrongdoing.

Fascinating!

As I posted elsewhere today about this very school district, they require no real education until the middle of High School.
It is enough for them to put a picture on any test or just make a mark to pass a test.
I know this because I got thai from the mouth of a Santa Ana teacher.

Once they require real test answers around the third year of High School, they will all drop out because a picture won't be enough.

Until then the teachers union gets about $7500 per student in cash to play with and make salaries larger with in exchange for NO EDUCATING.

Looks like their appears to be plenty of Hispanic voters in Santa Ana who don't want to continue the patterns of political corruption that exist in Mexico and want their children assimilated. This is a good thing. This same organization that Lopez runs is the same one which convinced legal immigrants studying for citizenship that they could vote.

That is why I posted this. It counters the view that the Hispanics are here for the easy living.

I wonder how the Democratic powers - Davis on down - figure into this!

They probably prefer that the immigrants stay uneducated!

Word on the street is that Hispanic-Americans are upset. They feel that the Dimwits have been taking them for granted. The same beef that blacks have. What people who don't live here realize that there is a large contingent of Americans of Hispanic descent who are very conservative Catholics. Santa Ana is in Sanchez's district. Too bad the GOP doesn't have a stronger candidate because I think she could be taken out very easily. The only Dimwit in Congress from Orange County.

I guess he figures if it was good enough (no accountability for money taken from the taxpayer) for Reverend Jackson, it's good enough for him.

I think the majority of immigrants aren't like the Hispanics that were already here. Why would they be anything alike since they come from different countries and have different cultural influences and different languages. Lopez seems to represent the majority of the immigrants but not those who've lived here many generations.

Bring back Bob Dornan. Snatchez stole the election with phoney votes anyway.

I'm hispanic and we are predominantly catholics and conservative in our lifestyle, which I is why I do not understand why so many hispanics are dems. I do have hispanic friends who are republicans, they study the issues, I don't think many take the time to really study the issues, I know someone in my family who doesn't.

As for bilingual education, I believe it should be the exception and not the rule, most kids will pick up a language fairly quickly if they are put in that environment. I should know, I grew up in a country (it used to be a british colony) where most of us are bilingual, Spanish spoken at home (for those who are hispanic), and the entire school curriculum was taught in English. There was none of this bilingual education stuff. Of course, one advantage we had was that the teachers were usually biglingual too, but they made sure we were taught in English.

Just getting up here but I was told that Bob who was my representative once has moved to Virginia but that is unsubstantiated...I remember the last election that he lost to Sanchez...her husband was arrested for taking down Dornan's signs...there was quite a bit of illegal voting cliamed by Dornan but the GOP would not support him on the issue...surprise, surprise...

[Community Based Organization] number one is the Mexican National Brotherhood, a nationwide organization usually referred to by its Spanish name, Hermandad Mexicana Nacional. The Immigration and Naturalization Service once allowed Hermandad to conduct citizenship interviews but stopped the practice when misconduct came to light. The group was the key player in a 1996 voter-fraud scandal surrounding the narrow defeat of Republican Robert Dornan by Loretta Sanchez. Hermandad registered 721 people who were not American citizens, and 442 of them voted illegally.
