Your implication is that overhunting has been substituted for management; when in reality, game management and hunting have been partners since the late 19th century. In fact, the disappearance of the passenger pigeon actually led to these concerns, when it was thought that the species suffered exctinction solely from being hunted to the last bird.

I saw some mail order catalog a year or so ago that had coyote urine in it for use as a deer repellant. Do you know if that would work, or would it just attract coyotes?

Do you know if that would work, or would it just attract coyotes I do not know, but we ALSO are having trouble with coyotes, who have come back. Sad to say, my neighbor's fat cat seems to be missing......
So I would not tempt fate, myself!
