Times like this make me even more grateful for the experts and good sense - and honesty - to be found on Free Republic. The mainstream chattering heads are down-playing this one Big Time.

Best...

Thanks! Only 10% of this war is being reported, for many reasons, that's why we can put a better picture together on FR than by simply watching the media.

God Bless the Marines, especially the ones who enlisted after 9-11 knowing it meant going to war.

I see them every day at MCRD SD, and I love them all.

Sorry, I keep forgetting that my attempts at humor do not work on the internet. It looks like you read through only one word. There were more. I guess any time after happy hour, I should not post and you should not read. Love Ya... Tom

Thanks, and my novel is almost finished, and I hope you'll read it!

I will. And I will consider it under attorney-client privelege, so you are assured of my confidentiality. On the other hand, I am likely to be too picky, so I hope your skin is thick. (This Writer's skin is not thick enough, sadly.)

If there is a device, and NEST can't findit, and it goes off, then what?

8 miles offshore and surface detonated? Unless it's a really big device, you get a big flash, followed by lots of steam, and some radioactive, vaporized fish, ship parts and cargo parts blowing farther out to sea. Unless the wind shifts. A quick look at the current winds shows it blowing off shore in that area.

I would recommend not looking in that direction the moment it goes off, though.

Oh, and by the way, 8 mi out is still within US territory, and we would probably lose several ships and several hundred guys. Which means that it will be time to turn the perp's turf into a hot, glowing parking lot.

AS I live in the upper east side, Would I survive the blast if the ship is 6 12 miles out? Assume 11 Kilo ton device.

Yes, but I'd suggest staying away from windows as the blast passes through.

Test: Umbrella
Time: 23:15 8 June 1958 (GMT)
11:15 9 June 1958 (local)
Location: Enewetak lagoon
Test Height and Type: Underwater, -150 feet
Yield: 8 kt

Umbrella was a DOD sponsored weapons effects test for a
medium depth underwater explosion. A Mk-7 bomb was used for
the test (30 inches in diameter, 54 inches long, device weight 825 lb.)
in a heavy pressure vessel (total weight 7000 lb.). Very similar to the Wahoo device.
The device was
detonated on the lagoon bottom NNE of Mut (Henry) Island.
An underwater crater 3000 feet across and 20 feet deep was produced.

In such a scenario, the blinding flash would not be a significant issue, no?

If something is found, it may not be released to the public. News of a dirty bomb in the ship would be enough to send the stock market plunging, I can only imagine how news of a nuclear bomb being found would effect the economy.

It doesn't take a whole lot of brains to put 2 + 2 together.

Many of us have been able to piece enough together from the little bits and pieces that have been leaked out, plus reading between the lines enough, to discern that there is a very high probability that there are one or more nuclear devices (or parts thereof) out there in the hands of terrorists. The 64 kT question was whether or not they had ALL the pieces that they needed to actually have a functioning device, especially the fissile material and some fresh tritium to seed the chain reaction. Now, putting some fresh 2 + 2 together, it looks to be pretty high probability that the answer was: YES!

Thank the Lord, this one apparently was found. The NEXT 64 kT question: Is this the ONLY ONE. . . or do they have MORE?

Sorry but I don't know how to start a thread with this, but 2 planes in the Philadelphia area have been escorted by F16s and made to land. One to Philly from New York to Las Vegas... a Chinese woman did not understand English and went to the bathroom after the pilot had told people to remain seated.

The 2nd plane from Portugal has been forced to land at Dover AFB and is still on the ground. There is a language problem with the pilot and he was unable to perform a maneuver the tower ordered him to do. The destination was New York.

I was just listening to Philadelphia channel 10 news (nbc) in the background and hope I have all the information correct.

I agree, i'm convinced terrorists already have the working parts for some type of nuclear device except the fissile material. And, Saddam might already have a working device.

I just pray this is not a Sum of All Fears scenario, and we're currently in a mad search for the bomb before anything happens.

I just saw the end of a scroller on CNN that says FBI reporting all is well on the ship - results-wise. Hope I got that right.

Good info? or Disinfo? We'll only know (if ever) in 30-40 years.
