Lott: "We Know Plenty” About Iraq Threat
NewsMax ^ | 9/11/02

The U.S. knows enough about the threat Iraq represents to more than justify an attack on Saddam Hussein, Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott said after a closed door briefing Tuesday with National Security Condoleeza Rice and CIA officials.

"I don't want us to be in a position weeks or months from now saying, 'How come you didn't connect the dots? What did you know and when did you know it?' We know plenty right now," Lott, (R-Miss), told reporters.

Lott added that he wants the White House to send Congress language on an Iraq resolution by the week of September 23 so lawmakers can work out the wording and have ample time for debate on the Senate floor before the pre-election recesses.

Lott wasn’t alone in saying that his eyes had been opened by the briefing. Senate Minority Whip Don Nickles, (R-OK), said that while he was skeptical last week of U.S. action against Iraq because he was not convinced there was an immediate threat, what he has now learned has changed his mind.

The briefing however, has "further convinced me that Saddam Hussein has a lot of weapons and is a serious threat to the U.S. and the world community, certainly his neighbors," he said according to a CNN report

Lott said it appears that Hussein may have been able to reverse some of the effects of disarmament accomplished by U.N. weapons inspectors before they were forced to leave Iraq.

"He's gone back and put (up) some of the plants that were destroyed or jammed up one way or another by inspectors," Lott said. "Well, I've got to be careful what I say, how much I say here. But we have reason to believe he has gone back and reactivated them. Some of them he could still argue they have dual use. But the fact of the matter is they can be used for very dangerous purposes."

Great. Let's see the evidence. Let Bush and Lott come before the nation with charts and proof and personally assure the nation that Iraq is a clear and present danger to the United States and that we must invade or overthrow that regime. Then I will shut up. Hell- even a scumbag like Kennedy brought evidence before the UN over the Cuban missle crisis and then went on TV and told the nation why we must confront the Soviets. When I see Bush himself show me evidence for Iraqi involvement in 9/11 then I will support any such war against Iraq.

I'm thinking Dasshole and the Dimwits have been set up big time by President Bush. D Hastert came out of meetings pretty somber last week, while Dasshole and the Dimwits said, "show me more". At some point Bush will tell the American public a large portion of what was told Tiny Tom and the American Public will be more than just a little ticked off.

Bye, bye Dass.

Hell, we ought too!!!! We are paying big bucks to get info. It's just that we appear unable to do anything with it once it's processed.

Sorry If I want to kill the right people who murdered 3000 Americans on 9/11 and not go on some empire building exercise against a state department- Ivy league- template boogeyman.

The RATS are pretending not to know anything so that
A) They can make it appear that Bush is keeping them in the dark on purpose:
B) The most important reason, they don't want us going into a war with Iraq until AFTER the midterm elections fearing solidarity with Bush will cause Pubbies to get elected to offices clearly socialists should get.

Wow! Lott's starting to act like a man! Maybe there's hope for him yet. I think the President and his team will start their communication campaign tomorrow with his speech at the UN...the big D'asshole will be left looking like the selfish, puny partisan hack that he is and Lott may get to be Majority Leader again.

That is your first sign- Lott acting like a man? Please! He is no Republican and certainly no conservative. He is an apparatchik of the Beltway of the first order.

I think you pay attention to what you want to because ample evidence has been presented of Hussein's danger to America and its citizens.

Based on Lott's ramblings the evidence is probably a pharmaceutical plant like the one Clinton bombed. Dual use you know.

Sorry, you are not a national leader, you do not get to see the evidence, and no cares if you shut up.

Yep, is does seen out of character for Lott. I like the line about them comming back later on asking howcome "we did not connect the dots" or "what did we know and when did we know it". ;) Maybe there is a spine in Lott's back after all. Parley

Those hitting abuse do realize that #8 is aimed at Pelosi and not tumbleweed, right?

Thanks, AM

What if the 'evidence' isn' conclusive. Do you suggest we wait until a nuc is given to LAQuesa and they vaporize a US city?

Then I will shut up.

Why wait? Shut up now and avoid the rush.

As for me and my house: We elected Pres. Bush to be the place at which the buck stops. We trust him to take the information gathered by our highly-embarrassed and so increasingly diligent intelligence apparatus, listen to his advisors as to what it all means, ponder as befits the most powerful man on earth, kneel in prayer and ask his Heavenly Father for divine guidance, and then make the decision.

Unlike you, I don't think the universe revolves around me and my intellect, so I give him the benefit of the doubt. In fact, I INSIST he not tell you, or me, or anyone else, thereby jeopardizing intelligence assets that your limited imagination can't even fathom.

So go ahead and shut up. Mr. Bush thanks you, and I thank you.

I respectfully disagree. It shows disrespect to women. Every person (whether they be male or female) must show respect to each other. I am not trying to be "PC." Maybe men need to be "bastard slapped." Is that acceptable? I think not. You best reconsider your decision. Thank you.
