Sorry, I can't be so forgiving. May they burn in hell.

- Pope John Paul, marking the anniversary of the attacks on U.S. cities, branded terrorism "ferocious inhumanity" but asked for prayers that God would show mercy and forgiveness for the attackers.Uh, once yer in hell, you're eternally separated from God. That's the "hell" of it. Seems unlikely that the hijackers had "death-cockpit" conversions.
Hard to figure what the Pope is talkin' about.

For God's sake ... which Bible does the holy father read anyway? My Bible says those who die apart from God's forgiveness through his son Jesus Christ are banished to HELL. There is no forgiveness after death. No second chance. No mercy available.

My niece emailed me something yesterday that I rather like.
Here it is:
In a recent interview, General Norman Schwartzkof was asked if he thought there was room for forgiveness toward the people who have harbored and abetted the terrorists who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks on America.
His answer:
I believe that forgiving them is Gods function. Our job is simply to arrange the meeting.

but asked for prayers that God would show mercy and forgiveness for the attackers. I have a different prayer. May darkness take them, them and all their kin, now and forever, unto eternity.
Yeah, that's how I really feel.

God is destroying His enemies. This includes the 9-11 terrorists.
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. - Psalm 1

I didn't read the whole thing, but the Pope's theology is a little off. According to my Christian belief, God will not show mercy because the attackers were not Christian. For a person to receive mercy from God, all he has to do is believe in God and believe Jesus Christ was His son who took upon himself the sins of the world and died for us, to save us from our sins. I believe that only those that believe this will inherit the Kingdom of God.

What? No call for mercy on those homosexual priests that have turned the Church into their happy, hunting ground to savage little boys? Or does he think they are above needing it?
As far guessing, no one needs to guess about the blame the Pope is attaching to America and to the innocent victims by this statement "The pope also urged the world to change in situations of injustice that spurred the desire for revenge." Seems to me a sad lack of moral clairity, a lukewarm response to evil, neither hot nor cold, not his finest hour.

"God would show mercy and forgiveness for the attackers."
As a pissed off American, I am glad he (the Pope) has a Christ-Like heart. I say burn in hell you bastards.
To: Pern
The pope also urged the world to change in situations of injustice that spurred the desire for revenge. A veiled slap at the United States?
To: Pern
But he called for changes in "scandalous situations of injustice and oppression, which continue to afflict so many members of the human family, creating conditions that are favorable to the uncontrolled explosion of the thirst for vendetta.Translation: It's our fault.
Sorry, the hijackers and their enablers weren't "opressed". They were, and are, men of privilage and high economic standing in the Arab world.
May God exact eternal vengance on their souls.
I feel like such a hypocrite going to Church lately, the institution is corrupt and decaying from the top down.
To: Pern
May God in His infinite wisdom have mercy on the souls of those who would trample us, for we have none. For them, we have only contempt and cold steel.
To: Pern
"We pray for the victims today, may they rest in peace, and may God show mercy and forgiveness for the authors of this horrible terror attack," he said in Polish, according to a translation provided by Vatican Radio. With greatest respect, Your Holiness, I cannot agree with your wishes for forgiveneness for the attackers.
My wish is that they be cast into the darkest depths of Hell to spend Eternity under the supervision of the Grand Inquisitor Torquemada, who will use every means at his disposal to force them to renounce Islam. Except unlike Torquemada's earthly victims, they never get the relief of death.
Like I said. For Eternity. (Sorry, Your Holiness, but my God can be a pretty Old-Testament kinda guy sometimes, and a real vengeful sort when the occasion calls for it.)

Proof that the old man is getting senile in his old age. Time for him to step down.Don't ever remember Pope asking for mercy and forgivness for monsters like Hitler, Stalin etc., but he was much younger then and still had his brains intact.
To: Pern
I'm sure that God will give them all the mercy they deserve.

Pope Asks God to Show Mercy on Sept. 11 Attackers At this point I'd appreciate some of that "old time" religion in which people were excommunicated and damned. The men who perpetrated the 9/11 attack had Satan in their hearts; yes, pity the poor wretched souls, but hope that God is just rather than merciful in this instance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name,
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done,
On earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us,
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Matt. 5:44 " . . . pray for your enemies . . ."
From the mouth of God himself.

First he refuses to clean his own church of known child molestors, now he expects us to do nice-nice with fanatical Muslim killers.

I agree that the old man is addled. Unfortunately, I believe his successor will be worse.
