POSSIBLE "ICE AGE" IN NEAR FUTURE?
Written September 6, 2002 by Joe D'Aleo Chief WSI/INTELLICAST Meteorologist
Wood's Hole Oceanographic Institute scientists have theorized that global warming induced by natural and/or human factors could actually bring colder temperatures to some highly populated areas like Eastern North America and Western Europe.
In the North Atlantic, an increasing amount of fresh water, perhaps coming from melting ice in the Arctic, has been accumulating and lowering the salinity of the ocean for the past 30 years. Fresh water in the ocean can upset the ocean currents that are the key to our planets climate control system. In February, WHOI oceanographers presented new evidence that this northern freshwater buildup may be approaching the threshold where it could alter currents in a way that would cause an abrupt drop in average winter temperatures of about 5 degrees Fahrenheit over much of the United States and 10 degrees in the Northeast. This change could happen within a decade and persist for hundreds of years. The dramatic and abrupt cooling would be especially noticed throughout the North Atlantic region of the United States and Europe where some 60 percent of the worlds economy is based. Read more below! Click on the first link to read the detailed article on the Wood's Hole Oceanographic Institute's theory on future Ice Ages.
Click on the two links below for FR postings on the related topic A LOOK AT THE ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES AND "GLOBAL WARMING" by the same author. His discussion is one of the best I have seen in making the argument that we should not jump into making new laws and regulations that would severely impact our lifestyle just because the greens and environmental extremists (together with their fellow travelers in the press) scream "global warming"!

25 years ago, when I was growing up, everybody was screaming that we were heading for a new ice age within our lifetimes.
10 years ago, suddenly the doomsayers reversed course and said that we weren't heading for an ice age, everything was going to warm up, melt the icecaps, flood the oceans, and within our lifetimes there'd be palm trees growing in Portland (either one, Oregon or Maine) and the surfing in Pittsburgh would be cowabunga, dude.
So now, since they can't prove either one--hey, let's have both! Global warming can CAUSE an ice age!
"You've got your Ice Age in my global warming!"
"Yeah, well, you've got your global warming in my ice age!"
"Mmmm! Two environmental wacko theories that taste GREAT together!"
God's driving. I'm not worried.

The globo-thugs behind Kyoto don't care about the truth.
Better scientific arguments mean nothing to them.

Well, one's thing certain, if their theories are correct, there is nothing that can be done about it in the time frame they are talking about, so why worry about it. Besides, it wouldn't be the glacial ice age we think about having covered North America 50,000 to 100,000 years ago, but more like the cold temperatures present at the time of our revolution.

I like the confidence expressed by the author's headline in the certainty of the event actually taking place.

Impossible! You mean the earth might be self-regulating, no matter what we do?
He, he, hee....

Nature balances herself out. I would not be surprised in the slightest.

Would you qualify this as a CYA...

So let me get this straight. Its going to get sooo hot that were going to freeze? Man these @sshole enviorMENTALists can cover all their bases....and it still sounds stupid! Whats next? Its going to get so cold that we'll all incinerate?

I figured the Ice Age predictions were coming because this winter and summer have been among the coolest I've seen in Washington State. It snowed on the first day of Spring and it's already long-sleeve weather even though Summer still has two weeks to go. Reading editorials about 'Global Warming' have caused me to wonder whether the liberal news media is reporting from another planet.

Lets see, warmer temperatures are evidence of Global Warming.
Colder temperatures are evidence of Global Warming, Ok, got it!

They're predicting another Little Ice Age, 1300-1855AD. (In as little time as possibly two years)
