Mountaineer May Carry His Black Powder Rifle

The Second Amendment Foundation has hired an airplane to fly a pro-gun banner over the crowd at Saturday's football game between the University of Wisconsin Badgers and the West Virginia Mountaineers. "Guns save lives," the banner will read.

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) says by hiring an airplane to tow the banner over the crowd in Wisconsin, it is using the First Amendment (free speech) to defend the Second Amendment (gun rights).

The SAF is upset about a "public relations blunder" by the University of Wisconsin, which tried to ban the black powder rifle carried by the Mountaineers' "mountain-man" mascot.

The SAF calls the ban - reversed after an outcry - "a slap in the face, not only to one school's tradition, but the First and Second Amendments that are unique to America."

Alan Gottlieb, the SAF's founder, commented, "How ironic that such a thing could occur in a city named for James Madison, father of the Constitution and author of the Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment. The Mountaineer, complete with his rifle, has been welcome by other schools and their administrators, but not Wisconsin."

"What nearly happened at Wisconsin," Gottlieb said in a press release, "is symptomatic of a broader anti-gun hysteria that runs rampant throughout liberal academia."

The University of Wisconsin's associate athletic director Jamie Pollard tried to justify the rifle ban. "First of all, it is our game," Pollard was quoted as saying. "And we don't need a gun going off in front of 80,000 people. In the big spirit of it all, I understand why they want to do it. But it is our home game."

Pollard's boss, Pat Richter, reversed the decision to ban the Mountaineers' rifle, which fires blanks.

"On Saturday, UW officials, fans and the nation will see that gun owners will not be mollified or silenced," said Gottlieb.

Baby steps, Mr. Pollard. Why don't you try to ban the Purdue band's drum first? After all, you can't have that thing going-off in front of 80,000 people. LOL

The real joke is that there is an ROTC rifle range right under the bleachers there in Camp Randall Stadium. One day as I was leaving after some target practice, the Armory Sergeant was walking in through the main tunnel with an old M-60 over his shoulder! I believe they still have public shooting Tuesday evenings.

Also, I'm amazed that the leftists are even talking about guns when there is a functioning nuclear reactor only 100 yards away from the stadium.

Living in Big 10 country, I tend to pull for the teams. This week however, I hope WVU kicks the living crap out of them. Does anyone know if this game is on national TV, or regional, ESPN, etc?

Then let me be the first to call for a ban on the sale and preparation of Mexican food in the city of Madison, WI. After all, with the attendant gastrointestinal side effects sometimes caused by food laden with chiles, we don't need a$$es like Pollard's going off in front of 80,000 people.

I hate to tell you Strela that the Mexican food in Madison doesn't contain any chillis. Just go eat at Pasqual's, some of the blandest "Mexican" food I've ever had.

Now the beer and cheese, that's another story.

Sounds like an enterpreneurial opportunity here to me.

ESPN Plus will be covering the game. There is also Badger Plus Online for the cubicle bound . . .

As far as WVU kicking the living crap out of out of the Badgers? I don't think so. WVU will have to settle for their "moral victory" over the musket use . . .

Thanks. A small-powered local station shows all the ESPN Plus Big 10 games (as one of the bigger stations picks up all the Buckeyes games). I can watch it through the fuzzy reception.
