But is passivity worth the risk of rape and death to you our your spouse? I lived in Atlanta for awhile and am very familiar with the area where it took place. Stockbridge is an ok area, but it is near to some of the worst neighborhoods in the region. While I can't predict what these criminals would have done, based on what has happened in the past in south Atlanta, the risk of rape or murder was a very real possibility. Inner city Atlanta(southside) has some of the highest murder and crime rates in the US(up there with the worst areas of Detroit, LA, Newark, Miami, DC.) Which would still result in carpet stains, but ya'll's instead of the criminal's.
When it comes to crime, the east side of Austin seems like West Lake Hills when compared to south Atlanta.
I do have a tangential question: Do you sense the average British citizens holding the same level of hostility and disdain to the US as is portrayed in the British press? The same anger at Blair for standing by Bush? From what you have seen, as a whole how often does the British press accurately portray what most Britons feel or believe(on all issues, not just war and Bush)? Just curious.

Good questions, but you'll not get a decent answer. This person, on another thread, equated the US contribution in WWII as minimal in comparison to the British, and that the Russians actually won the war (beat those nasty Imperial Japanese into submission, they did), which along with her personal belief against the dealth penalty unless an innocent, unborn child is involved (then its okey-dokey), doesn't give me a warm fuzzy about the answers you probably won't be getting back.
