From the Navy News Service
WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Gordon R. England, has ordered all U.S. Navy ships to fly the First Navy Jack in place of the Union Jack for the duration of the global war on terrorism.
The First Navy Jack, which is commonly known as the "Don't Tread On Me" flag because of the motto which appears on it, consists of a moving rattlesnake on a field of 13 horizontal red and white stripes.
From 1975-76, the First Navy Jack was flown by all Navy ships in the fleet for only the second time since the American Revolution as a historical reminder of country's Bicenntenial celebration. Then, in 1977, the Secretary directed that only the oldest active ship in commission would have the honor of flying the Jack. Today, that honor that belongs to USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63), which was commissioned April 29, 1961.
All Navy ships and craft authorized to fly the First Navy Jack will receive four flags each through a special distribution. For deployed ships, the flags have already been mailed to the appropriate Fleet Post Office address. Flags have been hand delivered by representatives of Navy Supply Systems Command's (NAVSUP) Logistics Support Centers to all other ships starting Aug. 30. Deliveries are expected to be completed by the second week of September.

First used by the Continental Navy on the Delaware River in 1775, according to this SECNAV instruction:
The first navy Jack was a flag consisting of 13 horizontal alternating red and white stripes bearing diagonally across them a rattlesnake in a moving position with the motto "Don't Tread On Me."

I believe that our ground and air troops should proudly and CONSPICUOUSLY fly our most excellent Gadsden flag...and let these people know that we are a nation of deep history and defiance...and are quite used to and equipped to deal with murdering scum wherever they live, or hide. No problem. We deliver...and we try, whenever possible, to leave witnesses. Tell your friends. They think they know us. They know nothing...but they will !
Perhaps we should paint our Fleet white again...so they don't miss the message...and think they can equate us with ANY self-styled "warrior nation."

Right on, it's time to step up. I'll be damned if those skiffy little terror-queens are going to get the best of us!

I thought that the oldest ship in commission was the USS Constitution- the original one- correct me if I'm wrong.

We'll just kill them, and the remainder will get the message...but we must remind them...no...teach them of what they are dealing with, and have mortally challenged. You see...the Oil money has convinced them that they are all one united people, and powerful. The fact is, at the slightest drop of a hat...they would enslave and murder eachother if their borders were removed. They are largely undeveloped dogs...and need suicidal bluster in a cloying, obvious attempt to cover this glaring fact up. True, pathetic fools. They know it...and it steams them no end.
We'll do this thing, and stand watch for the rest of human history. They have no idea....but they will !

Hear! Hear! And just so there's NO misunderstanding about what the Navy's true purpose is, I respectfully suggest that every proud ship also adopt the outstanding battle cry of the WWII submarine USS Bluegill.

"Kill the Bastards"
Hear, hear.

The article said that the "oldest active ship" is the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). Maybe the word "active" is significant, since the USS Constitution most likely won't be sent into battle. Just a theory, I'm not sure...

Interestingly though, if you or I should display the Gadsden flag at our house, we would be considered "anti-government" types (potential terrorists) who deserve further police scrutiny.
I believe a sheriffs department in Arizona had a pamphlet outlining those that deserve a closer watch by the powers of the state, under the guise of monitoring domestic terrorists, were those who flew such a flag.

Screw 'em, they won't stop me unless they throw me in jail.

Amen. If they would think of me as an enemy of the state for flying a historic flag of the US, then they have shown themselves as the true enemy...
