Up to now it's just been a war of words, but now Governor Glendening is upping the ante in his feud with Comptroller William Donald Schaefer.
Glendening is giving Secretary of State John Willis $25,000 in campaign money he doesn't need anymore to use for radio ads in his uphill battle to unseat Shaefer.
The ads will run in the Washington area where Schaefer isn't as popular as he is around Baltimore.
Glendening says he's doing it because of what he calls Schaefer's "lack of respect" for the citizens of Maryland.
Schaefer's opponents say he has made derogatory remarks about blacks and women during meetings of the Board of Public Works.
"We live in a state and a day and age where it is no longer acceptable to refer to women as 'little girls' and no longer acceptable to refer to African Americans as 'Afros,"' Glendening said.
Schaefer says Glendening has a personal vendetta against him.
"He is a master at dirty politics," Schaefer said. "I said 'Afro' once and he picked it up. As far as women are concerned, I put more women on my cabinet and in commissions during my time as mayor and governor than he ever did."

Nothing is TOO LOW for the lying, race-baiting, shotgun wedding, Lame-duck Guv of Baltimore City and the Washington suburbs. Too bad Schaefer is back Kathleen Kennedy Airhead for guv - he's been know to endorse GOPs at times. But, then again, who needs any of this crew? Wille, Kathy and Parris were at the tax-booty helm when MD went from a billion dollars in the black to a billion dollars in the RED!

So true.
But in this little dust-up Lord Governor Schaefer will have the final word. There is a 0.000001% chance the LGS will lose the comptroller race. There is a 100% chance that spendalot will not be the next governor. LGS will take revenge by scrapping anything with spendenings name attached to it. LGS is not one to forget a slight, no matter how small it was.
I just love it when they eat each other.

Actually disagree slightly with you here. While I have no use for Schaefer's politics, he is one of the most entertaining politicians in the state. If he gave up leeching (oops I meant politicking) he could work on the comedy club circuit.
One thing you can say about LGS, he never backed down from a fight and he isn't afraid to call someone an idiot.

Willie Don has had his problems, like when he called Maryland's Eastern Shore a "S---house!" But I think EmParris' latest gaffe will win Schaefer a record turn-out sympathy vote. At least in the vast, geographic majority of the State, (excluding the small, densely populated, Glendenning People's Republic sectors). I'm hoping the backlash will carry over to Ehrlich's benefit. It's too bad Bob didn't try harder for Willie and the Mayor's endorsement.

A recent Willie Don quote that appeared in the Washington Post:
"The fish are strong voters. They've always supported me in the past," Schaefer said. "I said, 'Fish, I want you to support me.' They said they would. I had a long conversation with the fish."
Entertaining as hell? Yes. Senile? Definitely!
