Read and post commentary on original 9-11 threads HERE in the remembrance archive.
Reading these threads still brings back tears and anger, and is a good reminder why the scope of our war must not be determined by apologists and appeasers.

The fact that two of you knew it so quick while so many of us were just un-simply stunned is an amazing thing to me. I am glad I looked today to see who was first on FR.
Do you recall how clinton said Osama Bin laden? U same a Binn Laden. If the guy had a clue how is it that he couldnt even say the man's name right?

I have a feeling that this(9/11 is going to go down with where were you Pearl harbor was bombed, Where were you when JFK was killed. One of those defining moments in the histoy of our country.

I agree with you.
I was 3 years, 1 month and 2 days old when Pearl Harbor was attacked. I can still remember my Dad and God Father listening to the car radio while taking a break quail hunting. I can remember both of them crying, and then they drove home without saying anything. My mother was crying when we got home. That was my first memory. My next memory was when my sister was born the 2 nd of January after Pearl.
Just about everyone can tell you where they were when JFK was shot if they were alive and past 2 or 3. I, also, remember where I was when President Reagan was shot.
As you noted, for most Americans 9/11 will be one of those watershed memory events. This Wednesday, my wife and I discussed 9/11, and both of us recall little things that happened that day better than things that happened yesterday.

If anyone in the media had paid attention to Ollie North's warnings, they might have done a little research on bin Laden. They could have learned how extensive his network is. They might have seen the barrels of money pouring in to Osama's bank accounts from many of our "friends" who support him. They could have named bin Laden early as well.
There were accounts of Clinton's softness on Osama right here in the forum during his second term. It was obvious that a madman was on the loose.
Any credit for naming bin Laden early should go to Free Republic, which is always ahead of the curve!

Excellant.
Today I was thinking about Massoud dying on September 10th, which yes is today and there were no comments on the threads posted that day about his assassination. Maybe 5 at most.
I am wondering why that didn't set off a bell in anyone.
I also remember plenty of Taliban jokes pre 911......
