If there was ever any doubt about the stark differences between U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minn., and Republican challenger Norm Coleman, they should have dissolved in the midday sun at the sticky confines of the Minnesota State Fair on Friday.

"One of the most pointed exchanges came from a question about a federal ban on assault weapons that is scheduled to expire. Wellstone and Coleman said they support continuing it but with limitations. Coleman said he would make a clear distinction between the banned weapons and semiautomatic hunting rifles, and Wellstone said all "sportsmen and women should have the right to hunt."
They are both ignorant fools; the 2nd is NOT about hunting. The whole damn country is doomed.

I have a close friend who's on Ventura's staff, and who knows his way around the Capitol pretty well. He is convinced the Wellstone race is a giveaway to the incumbent. But then, he's also a hardcore DFL'er.

The only thing that makes Coleman palatable is the fact that he's not Wellstone. My vote for Coleman will actually be a vote against Little Paul. That's sad, but it's political reality in the state where nothing is allowed.

As long as the Senate is Republican, I don't care is Coleman is a marxist. We need republican control to get judges through committee. With neither side having a 10 vote majority, there is little difference in who controls the senate with the exception of being able to put judges up for a vote.
