Living in Europe, I confirm this.

A lot of people say the US 'deserved' it because of a lot of vague accusations:

-their colonial/imperialistic attitude
-their support for Israel
-not signing the Kyoto protocol(!)

Take it from a European: most Europeans are just plain stupid!

"When asked if the United States should remain the only superpower or the EU should become a military and economic superpower like the United States, 65 percent of European respondents opt for the latter," the survey said.

Highest support for this idea was among the French at 91 percent and the Italians at 76 percent, and a majority of those who supported it also said they would back increased defense spending by their own governments if it were needed to get to superpower status.

Another point, this might be a good thing in the long run. In order to increase defense spending- social spending will have to decrease in Europe. There's no way they can keep up with us militarily from a technological standpoint and fund all the social safety nets they have. What am I saying? Keep up? Hell, they have to catch up first.

If they truly want to go down the road towards superpower status they would have to become less socialist and this would cause their attitudes and the way they view the world to change drastically in my opinion. They would see it's a serious business trying to keep order in this lunatic asylum of an Earth we're living on and it takes serious solutions and serious leaders to come up with those solutions.

A lot of Dutch people left and went to the US, New Zealand and Australia to start a new life. That's why there are so many lefties here in the Netherlands now, most decent people left!

Hey knighthawk, Europe isn't all bad. I'm sitting here right now with a mouth full of "Dubbel zoute drops" (hard zout). Man, I'm addicted to those things- I get a monthly offering from the company- Venco. I tried the salty licorice many years ago and have been hooked ever since. If any country should be spared, make it the Netherlands for the salty licorice.
