Briggs' Vote Helps Pass Budget

SACRAMENTO -- Clovis lawmaker Mike Briggs cast a crucial vote late Saturday night to pass a $99 billion state budget that was stripped of tax increases that had kept the spending plan trapped in partisan deadlock for two months.....

Briggs, who for months insisted he would not vote for a budget that includes tax increases, said Assembly Democrats met his principal demands: no new taxes and deeper spending cuts. Briggs also said the Republican leadership approved of his vote......

The Senate earlier Saturday evening granted Briggs one small plum by approving legislation he wrote that will erect a $3,000 exit sign for the Island Water Park along Freeway 99.

I guess noone reminded these guys that Davis has a habit of screwing compromising Republicans using the Line Item Veto to remove their stuff from the budget?
