BTW, I think the professor means natural gas, not 'petrol,' when he refers to the coming UK gas shortage.

Britain, it seems to me, is doing precisely the correct things it needs to in order to ensure its imminent collapse.

The old railway that connected my area to the mainstream areas of Scotland and the UK was demolished long ago. But the high taxes on petrol were supposed to go to improve public transport. There is a grass roots movement in my community to have the railway brought back. They say they hope to be able to accomodate us within the next generation.

In the meantime, we have only two two laned winding roads to get back and forth to Edinburgh or to the south and England. And of course every five miles or so there are speeding cameras. So not only do we have intolerably high petrol, we have no proper route to get to where the high paying jobs are and the purpose of the higher tax (public transport) will likely not be realized in our lifetimes... Not to mention the NHS is already in a shambles and the only thing to remedy it without privatization (I wish) will be to raise taxes.

As the saying goes- "that's how they get you"...

There will never be a shortage of wind in Great Britain. This professor is a good example of a portable wind generator.

Yes, but like he says, it's the ability to store this gas that bedevils the UK. Now on the continent they have managed to lay up a quantity of it for use when normal sources fail ;-)

Britain is about to experience a series of disasters that will leave the whole world aghast. Within less than 10 years, the USA will have had to go in and occupy on a street-by-street basis to try to preserve some semblance of civilization.

Wanna know why, read Kipling's Recessional. They has done recessed, now, and they know it. Having sowed the wind, they will weep the whirlwind.

"The problem gets much worse with gas if you close down all the nuclear stations, as seems to be the route ahead..."

Well, the solution is obvious, isn't it?

Hey, what are friends for? Anyway, if it's a new line, why not use new tech?

The environmental movement has been hijacked by persons with sinister motives. By shrouding themselves in "mother earth", with popular media mindlessly ready from prepared scripts, they intentionally tear concerned followers apart with intentional contradictions in order to manipulate them. I'm afraid our friends in the UK are about to receive a rude wake up call. Keep your biomass fuels handy!

I was refering to California's solution to their natural gas crisis…it was a knock on Gov. Davis…sorry to be so obtuse.

You can post 100 sane and logical things in a row, but then you eventually post something like this in order to remind us that you are completely off your rocker.

You'd be surprised to find out that Im a fan of maglev myself too. BUT I don't want it to be another inefficient wasteful taxpayer boondoggle abolish Amtrak and let the private sector put it up.
