Babies of September 11 (LIFE GOES ON ALERT)
Sky News ^ | August 30, 2002 | Sky News

They were born amongst tragedy.

They were robbed of their fathers.

They are the babies born to women widowed by the September 11 attacks.

Now they have gathered for one remarkable photo.

The 63 babies lay in their cots, some yelling, others gurgling with joy.

Heroes

Their fathers are the heroes of the tragedy - firefighters, policemen, employees who died trying to save others and airline passengers who tried to stop the hijackers.

As the one-year anniversary of the tragedy approaches, the photograph is expected to become a symbol of hope.

Jessica Velmans, who organised the shoot, said: "Most of the coverage of September 11 is pretty sad, but this is an uplifting edge.

"You can't be sad when you look at a gurgling, smiling baby."

Uprising

One of the toddlers is Morgan Kay Beamer, whose father, Todd, led the passenger uprising against the highjackers aboard Flight 93 with the words "Let's Roll".

Authorities say their actions stopped the terrorists hitting the Capitol building in Washington DC and it is likely they saved hundreds of lives at the expense of their own.

The plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, killing all 44 on board. Todd's wife Lisa was five months pregnant at the time.

Lisa says she will tell her daughter about the events of that fateful day as soon as she is old enough to understand.

We owe it to the fathers of these children, American and British (remember the Deena Gilbey episode), to wage this war to its necessary and just conclusion, so that these children do not have to grow up fighting the same war.

How was saving the lives of people inside the Capitol at the expense of their own? If they did nothing, they would definitely die. If they attacked they hijackers, there was a small chance of taking over the plane and landing it safely, but most likely the plane would crash anyway but away from its objective. The passengers knew they had nothing to lose by attacking the highjackers and preventing them from using the plane as a cruise missle.

Does anybody know the identity of that poor mother who dangled her infant out of the burning Towers, until she, probably dead, let it go?

I just can't dig through the literature to find it myself...but would really like the information. We should go to war for HER!

Oh God this is so horrible.

The only thing I've seen was a photo that is not clear at all -- and someone here on FreeRepublic has decided that the person is a woman holding a baby. I don't think this is the case -- I don't remember reading anything about an infant being among the casualties at the WTC.

I sure will. The photo was published along with all the others.

What struck me as hideous, considering where I live is surrounded by towns who lost very many people, like Westbury, L.I., is that some of the bereaved children may have known what their parents were wearing that day...to later see them hurtling to their deaths. Freedom of the Press, they say.

The Dry Cleaner in Westbury didn't know what to do with all the clothing now left in his shop. Some of the owners will not be back for them. The town was pretty well wiped out. Streets very empty for quite a while.

A friend made "the biggest mistake" in his life that day. When he saw the flames from his apartment on Pearl St., just blocks away...he picked up his binoculars...and saw the expressions on their faces.

Have a nice day, all, and be grateful for all you are being blessed with this very second. Let us think of and pray for our troops who have dutifully gone where we have sent them, and are fighting the tyrant...for US.

Never, EVER forget.

Can't see clear enough to type right now. Forgive me, too.

I wish your friend had a zoom photo lens and took pictures of those faces. We all must make a similar "biggest mistake" of our lives so the horror of what happened that day is seared indelibly on our national consciousness.

We've already gotten soft, and are turning Sept. 11 into a giant episode of Oprah. Forty years after Pearl Harbor, many in the World War II generation still resent Japan. One year after 3,000 innocent civilians died (and those monsters wanted to slaughter tens of thousands, remember), we are rolling over and exposing our soft underbelly yet again.

Yes, I understand what you are saying. At the time of this most recent present from murderous tyrany, someone opined that people would forget, because there weren't photographs of all the dead bodies. I suggested that if he really wanted them, he should x-ray our lungs. Lots of innocent victims there...and everybody in New York City knew it. We knew what we were breathing, and what we were wiping off our shoes, and windowsills. People.

Will we destroy world Islam?

Or will it still be killing Americans when these babies are old enough to fight?

If you look at that picture closely, it's not a baby, it's two adults.

They won't try to kill what they fear, as was the case previously. If the world is freed from the lock oppression has had on them, and those people, tasting freedom's benefits, condemn such filthy acts...their own people should turn them in...just as we do. As our system seeks to accomplish.

Hey...it's a shot. Once we deplete the present numbers, and keep a close watch on such things...we may stand a chance of minimizing future bloodshed. Even if things flare up again, at least we'll be alive to try again. IMHO.

(nitpick)

It's been 61 years since Pearl Harbor.

That is urban myth. What was thought to be a baby out the window was in fact a light haired man in a white shirt pressed up against the side of the window.Examine that pic closely, and you will see NO baby.
