YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - Former Rep. James A. Traficant Jr. will stay on the Nov. 5 election ballot, even though he has been expelled from the House and is housed in federal prison, elections officials said Wednesday.
The Trumbull County Board of Elections said it won't act to remove the expelled congressman from the ballot.
Prosecutor Dennis Watkins told the board it didn't have the authority to remove Traficant because the U.S. Constitution grants citizens the right to vote for and elect whomever they choose.
The only limits set by the Constitution for House members are that they be at least 25 years old, U.S. citizens and an inhabitant of the state from which they are elected.
Watkins said Traficant could be considered an Ohio resident because his wife lives there and his stay in a Pennsylvania prison is involuntary confinement.
Traficant, 61, was expelled from the House last month and sentenced to eight years in prison for bribery, racketeering and tax evasion. The nine-term congressman is an inmate at the minimum-security Allenwood federal prison in White Deer, Pa.
He petitioned to be on the ballot as an independent in Ohio's recently redrawn 17th District and vowed to run from jail.

I once saw a Larry Lea video where he proclaims, laughingly, of course, that God is the God of our "falling shorts." Think about it.

I was speaking for myself. Why don't you try the same? You presume I'm a Republican. I'm not. Suggest you buy some underwear that's a size or two larger. You're being quite a pill.

Yeah, they were the charmers, all hat and no cattle! I like Traficant because he's a nut and very entertaining. His language leaves a little to be desired, but I loved the way he would attack his fellow congresscritters in no uncertain terms. He was fun.

I once saw a Larry Lea video where he proclaims, laughingly, of course, that God is the God of our "falling shorts." Think about it. I am but I can't figure it out. The closest I can get it is that one time I was driving on the road when I suddenly realized that I had accidentally put my underpants on backwards. At that point I started fervently praying that I wouldn't get into an accident. I didn't want to be found by the paramedics wearing that backwards underwear. Think about it.

That wouldbe nice. As long as the House is firmly held, I wouldn't mind seeing Trafficante elected. I would think that he would be granted furlow for his One Minute Speeches. That would be a hoot...
Do you think if the balance of the house hung in the balance, would Bush issue him a pardon?

What is your reading of Indiana-11?

Suggest you buy some underwear that's a size or two larger. Hmmmm.... How did UNDERWEAR suddenly become a topic of interest on this thread?

, but I loved the way he would attack his fellow congresscritters in no uncertain terms. If he returns to congress it would be like a scene from "The Shining." Instead of merely entering the House Chamber upon his return, Traficant would be chopping on the big door with a large hatchet as the rest of Congress waits nervously for the inevibable. Then as Traficant chops a hole into the door, he would stick his head thru ala Jack Nicholson while screaming wildly: "HEEEEEERE'S JIMMMMYYY!!!"

Wouldn't it be sweet if Traficant drained enough Dem votes to deliver this seat to the GOP? :-) Wouldn't it be sweet if Traficant drained enough Dem votes to WIN! With the politics of the Mahoning Valley, any republican that would get elected would be more of a democrat than Traficant.
Cheerleading for your team, especially in this case, is mistaken. We should all realize by now that not all republicans are worthy of our votes. You must vote conservative. On issues most important to conservatives, Traficant is way ahead of many, many republicans in Congress.

My team, huh? You don't have a clue about Traficant, do you? He's not a conservative. He's a nut.

What is your reading of Indiana-11? Indiana-11? There are only 9 districts in Indiana.
To: JohnKasota
It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.
I suspect that you may be victim of an e-mail prank.---
The information on the hot checks was in the paper;
This does not even mention a Congressman's (Barney Frank)
boyfriend run a house of male prostitution out of his house.

That's funny. I can see it now....

Well, mom always said to wear CLEAN underwear. I don't remember anything about putting it on the wrong way, so you're okay.

My initial information on this race, assuming that candidates for R, D, and I are all on the ballot on Election Day, with no one expelled or withdrawn...
There is a 40% chance that Mr Trafficant will actually come in first.
There is a one-third chance (33%) that a Republican woman will come in first.
There is a 27% chance that a Democrat [other than Trafficant] will come in first.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the US Constitution say that congressmen cannot be arrested or detained while congress is in session? I seem to recall a Dim congressman whipping out a copy of the Constitution after a traffic accident and the cop had to let him go...
Anyway, if that's the case, he might have to be RELEASED from prison while in session.
To: Marysecretary
Bush is a muddle-of-the-roader who could not be placed as one degree to the conservative side or liberal side of that dotted white line.
If Trafficant wins this seat, Mr Bush ought to do the decent thing and pardon him of all offenses committed prior to Nov. 5, 2002, so that he may assume his seat in January with a clean slate.
