Well worth reading. Maybe some of our liberal friends might learn a thing or two.
Anyone have a favorite law?

Corn?
I guess there really was trade between the old and new worlds back then.
Or maybe the translators are not worth their salt.
To: Born to Conserve
If the translator is British, "corn" means nothing more than "grain".

Anyone have a favorite law?3. If any one bring an accusation of any crime before the elders, and does not prove what he has charged, he shall, if it be a capital offense charged, be put to death.
Goodbye tobacco lawsuits, goodbye fast-food lawsuits, goodbye gun manufacturer lawsuits, etc. So simple, and yet so powerful.

The correct word is Maize from the Aztec. Maize is the word for what North Americans call cork out of usage. Spanish speaking peoples have continued to use the word maize. Interestingly enough, the Italians also call maize "grano turco" or Turkish grain.

Interestingly enough, the King James Version of the Bible uses the word "corn" 102 times.

The explaination is not one of error, but of word usage. The word "corn" had a different meaning then than it does now. The word "corn" used to refer to any grain, but especially wheat.

229 If a builder build a house for some one, and does not construct it properly, and the house which he built fall in and kill its owner, then that builder shall be put to death. 230. If it kill the son of the owner the son of that builder shall be put to death.
Compare this to the Hebrew Bible:
Exodus 20:31: "Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him."

Nope. Today that law would read:
If anyone bring a charge that he cannot prove the judge still must consider the case, even if the charge be absurd. And the accused must pay large fines to defend himself or may opt to pay an agreed upon sum to the accuser to make him go away. The accuser will then pay a portion of his ransom to officials of the government so that they may continue to bring frivolous accusations before judges.

I saved it. I will print it and read it as a Great Book. It is worth the effort of wading through it (for me, with CFIDS, a monumental project!)

Corn, kernel, same root. Used interchangeably at one point but no longer, not in standard American usage at least.

#25 is interesting: “If fire break out in a house, and some one who comes to put it out cast his eye upon the property of the owner of the house, and take the property of the master of the house, he shall be thrown into that self-same fire.”
Harsh!
