My understanding of this situation is that Charles Hurwitz financed his forced takeover of Pacific Lumber with junk bonds and then upped the level of cutting to a maximum to pay off these bonds. I have heard he is quite unpopular even among PL employees. It would seem to me that all his activitys are quite unamerican and should go down in the annuals of great american corporate rip-offs,along with Enron. My grandparents took me to see the great redwoods of N. California when I was a kid,and I'll never forget the experience. The PL workers should go on strike until they can somehow manage the operations of the company themselves. Hurwitz,who claims "whoever holds the gold rules" should treat his workers better,not that we have to be commies,but come on-to sacrifice national treasures so quickly,this is a disgrace.Plus all the people getting flooded out,if this is true,there oughta be a law.

I have read extensively on Hurwitz, and I definately do not like him. Pacific lumber once had a world class sustained yield harvast plan, a no lay-off policy, free rent at company housing in Scotia, and loans for the kids of workers.

He also tried to gut the pention plans of retired workers, and the courts had to reinstate that money. He is greedy, cruel, and is only out for himself. It would behoove anyone who wants to cull out a prime example of a corporate 'Jack the Ripper' before this guy taints everyone else in jobs like his just by association.

his coming started the timber wars down there in the California norh coast, and it would be great to se him go away.

Remedy and Wren say they plan on staying put until Pacific Lumber promises, at the very least, that the trees will not be cut.

LOL! Once on the citizen band radio channel they use out at Fall Creek and nearby tree-sits someone piped in with; "Hey tree huggers, does the word Husqvarna mean anything to ya?" ;-)

Wren, wearing a wool ski cap and heavy parka when she greeted visitors on a 70-degree afternoon, is already prepared for winter.

I suspect she will fare poorly this winter if she dresses this warmly when the ambient temperature is ROOM TEMPERATURE.

many sitters have more and heavier clothing then is nesessary because of fog drip, and surprise weather, especially down there in the California coast area.

Heavy clothing is also used to slow the spread of pepperspray if it is used by someone trying to remove them from the sit, and in a donut shaped platform with no furniture, heavy clothing can make things infinately more comfortable up there.

Not to mention that two months after Remedy climbed her tree, a 27-year-old woman from Matawan, N.J., who calls herself Wren climbed a redwood less than a hundred feet away, well within shouting distance.

When I grew up in Matawan, it was so Republican that the official Republican and disgruntled Republican running as an independent both got more votes than the Democrat. I wonder if she is really from Aberdeen, which was more Democrat.

LOL! Oh, really? And what did the tree(s) say to you? "Come sit on us!" And why not use your real name... I mean, if this is such a noble cause why hide behind a fake name? Opps!! How silly of me! I suddenly realized it's a lot easier for her to change her name than for her family to change theirs!

The use of "forest names" is due to fear of federal and local police intelligence gathering, and to remove "the ego aspects" of the action.

Those out to gain notoriety for themselves are not wanted out there in the woods.

It is also part of the rite of passage of becoming a citizen of a "tree village," the common name for an area in the forest with several tree-sits.

Most sitters also cover their faces and don't talk about what they did out in the woods when they return to civilization.

Where is OSHA? Where is the EPA? Does she have a sewage plan? Building permit? Did she file an impact statement? Was it reviewed? All this and more is always pushed by the left. How can they do without when it is their turn? Anyways, what about historic old growth grass? When will the mowing stop!
