Department of Defense Corporation fails to honor extended career service contracts

While we had planned another article in this space about the most recent Stars and Stripes interview with Dr. Dov Zakheim, the Pentagon's arrogant Comptroller, breaking news has put us in a News Alert mode instead. Not to worry, both he and Dr. Chu, Assistant Secretary for Readiness, will be back - with more quotes that are over the top for most of us who have REALLY been there.

For now, we have to deal with this illusion that SECDEF Rumsfeld and the two aforementioned lieutenants (and other corporate staff) in the DOD Corporate Structure are trying to sell the public, and us. DOD is a corporation. A corporate structure implies a product or service, which hopefully has market and user value. What is DOD's product? ...more

CEO Rumsfeld's vision for dealing with older models of the corporation seems very clear to us at this time. Dust 'em off a couple of times a year, put them in parades and display them as collectibles or antiques. Park them in a neat row while the speeches are delivered, but don't waste money on the parts and services needed to keep running.

I'm overdue for a wash and a wax.
